Need help with new computer

I am building a computer for my Grandad's birthday, it was 2 weeks ago. The computer still does not work. At first we thought it was the Motherboard, so we replaced it. Then we thought it was the CPU, so we sent it off and it turns out I needed a Graphics card. So I bought a cheap 1GB Nvidia card. Still not working. We took it to my local computer store, they said it all looked fine. The light on the motherboard is on and I have tried all different ways to plug in the POWER SW. Specs:
AMD Athlon X2 340 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor
Asus A55BM-E Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard
Crucial 2GB (1 x 2GB) DDR3-1333 Memory x2
Hitachi Travelstar Z5K500 500GB 2.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
Zalman Z5 ATX Mid Tower Case
EVGA 430W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply
Hannspree HE225DPB 21.5" Monitor
Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer
EVGA G210 1GB DDR3 VGA DVI HDMI Passive PCI-E Graphics Card

I am trying to power it up without a mouse and keyboard plugged in. Does that make a difference?

If anyone can give me some insight, it would be great. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum, Red.

Have you tried plugging in keyboard?

And when the shop told you it all looked fine, did that mean it worked for them or not?

Also, you need to please remove those links to competition.

Hi Redpenguin can you remove the competitor links and recheck the FAQ regards these please.

I have not tried with a keyboard, I will try now. When the shop tried it, they said it all looked fine but it did not turn on.

Update: I tried with a keyboard, it is still not turning on.

Best to take pics of every connection as Billy advised, especially motherboard area but also round the back and the drive/s etc. Also, list all the components.

so its not turning on as in there is no power at all? not even a blue glow from the monitor? in this case you should check the psu, the big 12 pin connection to the side of the motherboard and the 4/8 pin conection going in next to the cpu. is there any light on the psu suggestion there's power? psus generally have a light as soon as its pluged into the mains, at least mine does! if there is a light but its not coming on at all the psu probably needs replacing!

Have you tried disconnecting all the items you do not need to make it boot then adding them back in 1 by 1?
Build the pc out of the case. Remove all HDD's, Extra peripherals, Graphics Card as it looks like this MoBo has onboard graphics and see if that works. You could also try removing the memory as this should give a beep code, providing your board has a beeper/buzzer. If still no luck after all this try reseating the CPU.

When I sent the CPU to be tested, they said that it required a dedicated GPU. I also plugged in my beeper and got nothing. I see a light on the motherboard so I think the PSU works. I dont have the computer with me right now so I cannot test further.

The monitor acts as if there is nothing plugged in. The 4pin plug for the CPU is in. There is a light inside the PSU and on the motherboard.

Have you got plugged in the power to the CPU? There will be one large one for the motherboard and a 2nd one for the cpu (right next to it).

Also make sure your graphics card power is plugged in.

There is nowhere for me to plug in to the GPU and the manual doesn't say anything about it. The CPU plug is in.

Do you (or a friend) have a machine handy that you can borrow a few components from?

If you can pinch his GPU, PSU and case (well actually just the power switch connector) you can start to narrow down the possible "bad" parts by swapping working ones into the system.

Is there any noise from within the system you try to turn it on? I had a recent problem where the circuit breaker inside my PSU was triggering - took me a while to work out what was going on...
