Need Help with new Hard Drive

The Western Digital Caviar Blue drive I ordered from OCUK arrived today, I'm having some trouble getting my PC to recognise it though. I'm fairly sure it is connected correctly to the motherboard and power supply. When I boot up the PC I can't see any evidence the drive is installed though. There is no entry for it in Device Manager.

The drive didn't come with any jumper pin, but it says on it to set a specific jumper combination for SATA 3GB/s. My motherboard only supports SATA 3GB/s, so is the pin essential for the hard drive to work, or should my PC still detect it without? If it is essential, will a jumper pin out of an old hard drive do, or are they different depending on model?

I have an IP35 Pro motherboard, 3 other SATA slots are already in use by a SSD, HD and DVD drive.

try with an old jumper first,they are all the same

I used a jumper pin from an old hard drive and set the new drive to 3GB/s mode, my PC still can't detect it.

Have you checked in Disk Management to see if it appears there?

I just checked, it doesn't appear there.

Can you check that the drive is powered up by touching it?

Have you tried a different SATA data cable?

I unplugged the SATA cable from my working hard drive and put it in the new one. That didn't help.

There is definitely power getting to the drive. I can hear clicking sounds coming from it at bootup though, and some sort of error message displays on the bootup screen but disappears too quickly for me to read it. I guess the clicking is not good.

Can you try it in another PC?
