Hi
I am looking for new internet package.
Just broadband fibre and line rental.
Currently on Virgin Media paying £37! for standard broadband 20mb'ish....
We ordered a package from virgin media site three weeks ago.
It was 50mb fibre optic + line rental. £34.50 a month for 10months. First eight month would be £23.50.
Anyway we completed the order, gave us a confirmation email, told us the time the engineer would come and set it up. Today was the day, stayed home from work, waited till the engineer didnt arrive in the specified time. So rang virgin media and they said you were not eligible for this package. They did not tell me anything WHATSOEVER. I told them this is not acceptable and all they said is we can offer you a fasterbroadband for a few quid more....
Nevertheless, we are looking for a package for a decent price. Do not want to pay for than £35 a month. I use 50gb+ a month so unlimited internet would be ideal.
Can change ISP if needed.
Thanks a lot.

Looks to me like you're on Virgin ADSL, and you ordered their cable package (which you aren't eligible for)?

As Orcvader says, if you can get BT infinity/Plusnet you can get unlimited internet for cheaper. Don't forget cashback deals too :)

All FTTC is just a resold Openreach service. Openreach and BT are part of the same group of companies so, if you can't get FTTC with BT then you won't be able to get it from anyone.

Try samknows.com to see what's available for you.

Its really not the end of the world......
Have you looked into alternative technology providers? Are there any independent fibre providers? How important is latency to you, satellite may be an option? What about fixed wireless as that is fast and doesn't have latency problems?

Multiple ways to skin a cat.

As above, it seems you're outside Virgin's cable network and BT Openreach's FTTC (meaning no Plusnet, Sky, etc).

Link to SamKnows, handy to see what is actually avaliable in your area: https://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

Wireless broadband would be my next bet on fast speeds if it's avaliable. What results do you get from speedtests? If you're on ADSL at the moment there are ways to try boost the speed a little, such as using the master socket instead of an extension, removing the bell wire, and replacing the faceplate with an ADSL one. Doing those squeezed an extra couple of Mb for me before FTTC became avaliable.

this is what samknows shows me.

Hmm might be best to ring up Virgin again to see what they say, either the CS is not properly checking or the checker on the site itself is wrong.
