Okay so I bought this, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-244-SE&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1955 a couple of days ago and it arrived this afternoon.

I installed it and plugged in the sata connector and power, powered up and went into bios, checked the boot settings. :D

All was fine, it still picked up my ssd with my os on and all my other drives. So I went into windows and it automaticly started installing drivers so I thought "oh cool, I'll just let it do its thing".

After its finished with all the updates it prompted me to restart, so I did. ;)

Went back into windows and it still wasn't showing up in my computer, although I know its running because I can still hear it.

I have three other drives in my system which are all working fine and still are.

Has anyone got any ideas what I should do next?

Also I thought green drives are suppost to be quiet... this one seems to be louder than my western digital black drives... :(

I had some problems over xmas with a new 500GB seagate drive. The bios detected the drive as ST_M13FQBL and appeared in device manager and disk management as the same with 3.86GB capacity. I got an I/O error when attempting to initialise it in disk management. I had to get it RMA'd and got a replacement which worked perfectly.

Check and see what your disk appears as and try and initialise it in disk management. (right click my computer and click manage and find the disk in the list)

It won't appear in My Computer until you've formatted it and assigned a drive letter.

Right click on 'My Computer', select manage and then click on Disk Management.

There should be drive with 'unallocated' space.

Right click on the unallocated space to format the drive and assign a drive letter (new volume, quick format and it will appear in My Computer as an empty drive).

Thank you so much, forgot all about that. :o Working great now. :D

More bad news. :(

A warning came up a few minutes ago suggesting I should backup the files I have on the new drive as its "reporting faulty".

Can't remember what the warning exactly said.

I didn't back it up because I haven't had time to install anything on it yet.

Its not showing up in my computer or disk management at all now. :(

It's late so I'll work on it tomorrow, just thought I'd let you guys know and see if you have any suggestions.

Just an update really. :(

When turning the pc on, the screen just before bios says that its "faulty". It's been doing that since last night.

I've been trying different sata connectors and power leads and they all have the same outcome.

When in windows it doesn't show up in my computer or disk management.

I'm thinking its just a faulty hard drive and going to RMA it tomorrow. :(

At least you're suggestions worked for a while i guess. :D

Does anyone have a link to a download of "ES Tools"?

I've been googling around and can't seem to find it, not sure what I'm looking for tbh.

Got an e-mail from the rma department telling me I should download this tool to find out whats wrong with my hard drive?

*edit* Don't worry, finally found it. :o

Only just seen these posts but I did read a very lengthy thread about these drives failing for people in the way that you have noted. However I never could find the latest firmware to flash this model. Unless it has changed the latest firmware is CC3C.

I made sure that I flashed the updated firmware (not easy) to my 1TB Seagate before I used them which might have helped that drive.

The thread is here...

Act quickly and you could even send it back under the DSR but I'm not sure why you would need that if the drive is faulty as you describe.
Send it back for a refund and you are entitled to your postage costs for the faulty unit.

Sorry for all the questions, but how do I go about doing that?

There doesn't seem to be an option for that or do I have to put it through the RMA inquiry?

Many thanks. :)
