Need help with second HDD

Hi guys

Just put a second HDD in my new build, for some reason it's not showing in my computor, i'm using VISTA home premium 64.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, i read about creating a simple volume but tbh i don't know what that meens.... i just want the HDD, no frills

i'm sure if you right click my computer and go to manage you can access disk management to set it as an active drive.

is it detected in the bios?

Yeh i can see it in bios and right click my computor, and it says online. But do i have to make a new simple volume to see it?

Bah nm, i think i did it... hopefully its right

just did a simple volume and didn't format the disk.

Ah kk, seems i have to format disk to use it.... looks like this could take some time, 500gig HDD

you can get away with just ticking the quick format box and then it only takes a few seconds

If I'm honest, not a clue... I always do it to mine and according to hdtach it doesnt seem to make them any slower than they should be

Just doing some reading up on it, there are mixed oppinions on the subject. Some say, new HDD already checked at factory for probs, just do quick. and some say do a full format to make sure it's all good. Meh Suppose i might as well just do the full one.
