Only last week I had a problem where my newly built system wouldn't restart itself after an install for example. I had to keep pressing the reset button on the front of the case to bring it back to life.

However, I found a solution to this problem on the web which was to change the LDT setting from 5 to 4 in the BIOS which now works a treat.

However, I now have a problem with shutting down the system as when I click shutdown the system restarts.

My spec is as follows: -

Mobo: Asus P5N32E-SLi
CPU: Intel Quad Core QX6700
O/S: Windows Vista Home Premium

As anyone any idea on how I can resolve this & what actually is the LDT setting in BIOS?

Thanks in advance.

Disable the JMicron eSATA controller in the BIOS. That usually cures that problem.

LDT is Lightning Data Transport and it's NVidia's implementation of the AMD Hypertransport Bus technology that replaces FSB and allows the CPU to talk to the RAM and the Southbridge. The multiplier sets how many times faster than the theoretical FSB the Hypertransport BUS runs.

For AMD systems it was recommended to keep it below 1000, however that recommendation is no longer made for Intel implementations as they don't actually use the HT bus to set the CPU speed.

Why NVidia duplicated the FSB system on the Intel motherboards is anyone's guess, but it's most likely to avoid having to have 2 totally separate chipsets for AMD and Intel implementations. They apparently only changed what they absolutely had to on the AMD system get the CPU, Northbridge, RAM and Southbridge to talk to each other on the Intel implementation.

Sorry - yours doesn't have the eSATA, so it can't be that. I got my 680i boards mixed up :o
