hi i have been trying to figure out what has happened to some disk space on my ssd. i have a 120gb actual is 111gb when i select properties it says that i am using 93gb and have 18 left free, i have hidden files showing my recycling bin is empty and i have done a disc clean up. when i look at properties for all folders in C: and add them up it comes to 60gb i have tried to select all folders and properties it still comes to the same so where has the other 30gb gone i cant find anything and its starting to annoy me as 111 aint exactly a lot of space to start with lol. please if anyone has any ideas please can you help

many thanks

adam

first thing i would do is to disable system restore and run disk clean up with everything ticked.

what SSD do you have?

you could manually set the virtual memory as well.

i set mine to custom size and initial size 200mb and max size of 1024mb

if your ok to disable system restore than remember to delete the previous restore points too

ok so i have set virtual memory to what you recommended but i also set my second hard drive to system managed as that is really only for storage and i havnt got a lot on it. i have got used space back to 67gb which that leaves like 5gb unaccounted for, which is a number i am ok with its a hell of a lot better than 30gb lol thanks for all your help

glad you have managed to claw back some space.

have you ran disk clean up yet? as this removes old windows update files

if you haven't already, you should disable hibernation as well. open an administrator command prompt:

Code:
powercfg -h off

yeah have done disc clean up and have just disabled hibernation i think does it give confirmation after entering the code cause i didnt get one so im guessing it has worked. and what is hyberfil

I always do this, no need for hibernation really with the under 10 second boot time with an SSD.

Thanks for starting this thread -

I to have lost a lot of space on my Samsung 240gig SSD - I am down to 72gb'

I have done what others have suggested and have recovered 7gb -- One question is what happens to files when Windows does an update - are they saved in a list or are they deleted when restart happens for the update -
I have cleared out the Download folder.

I just can't see me having used 140gb on what I have loaded on computer and I also save most things to the 1Tb ordinary HD.

If anyone can come up with something would be grateful

Thanks

Dave

I think Windows update files get deleted when you do a disc clean-up, if you highlight all files on ssd and click properties how much does it say they take up
