A friends autistic son has set a bios password on his laptop Asus k53sd
and can not recall what it is
we get the asus splash screen then a box asking for a password and cant go any further

I have taken the cmos bat out for 2 hours no joy doing that
is there anything that can be done

Removing the battery almost certainly won't work as the newer laptops store it in flash memory that doesn't require power. Resetting the CMOS is also unlikely to work, but worth a shot I suppose. Other than that it's contacting Asus I'm afraid :(

How new are we talking? I've worked on laptops from late 2015 that had BIOS passwords, resetting CMOS worked on them.

I have never encountered a situation where the BIOS password is stored in flash... Like what benefit would it have? It's not like you're keeping your bank statement in the BIOS.

It's a security feature to stop people just removing the BIOS battery to gain access. You need the BIOS password to get though the post/boot process in the OP's case.
