Just bought a bike on finance, and hand over day is coming up, however i sent my licence off after i passed my DAS and DVLA say it can take up to 3 weeks to get it back. is there another way i could get the dealer to release the bike to me?

what would the ID be for? I'm guessing it might be for the finance?

I've got the itch to get back on a bike!

Have you done all the paperwork for the handover/finance and just need to collect the bike? If so then probably be alright just turning up on the day and riding off, surely the dealer will know you anyway, or just take your passport to be safe.

I've done the finance application and all was fine. they are getting the bike ready at the moment and when they call me i can go down pay the deposit and do the hand-over but he said i would need to take my licence along for ID?

That sounds a bit strange....I didn't have to have my licence when I bought my new bike in September, but the dealer knows me I go there quite regularly. But still! Unless your licence is restricted in which case they may need to see it?

yeah, i will, the licence is full no restriction.

so i'm not sure why they care, i could for all they know just be loading it on a trailer?

They're not interested in your licence, they just have to make sure they give the bike to the right person. :) I bought a new bike for cash a few years ago and rode away there and then without showing them any photo ID. Did have to tell them my details for registration etc, of course.

it will be to confirm you have the correct licence just take your pass certificate with you.

Again, I'll say this, and I'll be more clear. You do NOT need a licence to buy a new car/bike. You DO however, if they offer you insurance as part of the deal, or offer you temporary 7 day insurance, as a lot of places do, to drive away.

You need a licence to drive the car, not to buy it. You will however, most likely need some form of photo ID to collect your car. Most people would use their licence, but if you can't (being that it's with the dvla etc), a passport or so will be accepted. Household bills etc are generally not accepted as forms of ID.

Its on finance - the finance company will probably insist that the dealer takes a copy of the license before handing the bike over

Ill be clear, before you dish out advice know your facts and read the OP. Hes not buying the bike he has finance on it, the finance company will want to ensure that he has a valid licence!

Just to be clear, i had this issue in Sep last year, no licence as had bast in the same week and licence had been sent off, finance company wanted all my pass certificates for mod 1 / 2. Also wanted photo id to confirm who i was.

ahh ok, so probably won't be able to get back on a bike until i get my licence back.

anybody know how long it's taking at the moment?

No you can just take your pass certificates in with you, as much id as you have it will be fine.

The important bit, what bike?
