hi all :)

having major problems with my computer of late i bought both parts from overclockers but im not sure which part or both is causing these problems
what it is ive been playing a lot of new games latly aswell as bf2 which i always play
im getting major artefacts in all games of late but im not sure what it is that could be causing it.
i bought these from overclockers

gainward biss golden sample 7900 gs 256 mbs card.
asrock dual sata motherboard.
dual core 4400 cpu.

im getting like weird artefacts in all games not as much as what i do with the new games though.
in silent hunter 4 for example im getting green flashes on screen aswell as loads of lines all over my screen so the games become vertually unplayabl;e

ive tryed old and new drivers-still the same

im stuck on what it is thats causing these artifacts

could it be my ram as i have 1.5 gig of ram but there different models?

could they be cauing this?

is there a tool i can get that will tell me whats cauing these problems?

i really hope some1 can help me here as ive obnly had the equipment for like 6-7 months and really for the money ive paid out i should be getting 1-2 years worth from the stuff i bought maybe more :(

please help some1 thx :)

sorry m8 i just remembered now when i was playing that silent hunter 4 the new pc game i kept getting them artefacts so i set affinity on my cpu to 1 core and they mostly went the lines on screen but i did get a few still ?
so could it be my cpu?

ive this 9800 se gfx card but that wont even load that silent hunter 4 game up i dont think :(

plus i think this viods the warrently on my cpu?
ive had to reput some thermal paster on my cpu to try and cool it down.
if i havent put enough paste on it could this be causing the artefacts aswell ?

my temps in the bios are knackered aswell :(
they read -48c and -39 c ???????
havent a clue why this has happened but theres obviously something wrong?
maybe to much cpu paste??? or too less?
 
Any artifacting is caused by graphic card overheating or actually NO SWEARING pixel pipes/vertex shaders. What temperature is your graphic card? (should show you in nvidia control panel...) else you can use nTune.

edit: a screenshot would be nice.

when on my desktop my gfx card temp is 39c thats normal but ingame ill try it now see what it says :)
ill take a screenie aswell .
 
well ive been messing around as per unseual and i found out that if i turn off hardware acceleration in dxdiag everything runsd smoothly :)
but do i need this on ?
what sort of performance hit am i getting with it off?
 
i notiiced something in that ati tools programme .
when i ran it i went to setting at looked through the settings and the 2 it listed at the bottom were active pixel pipeline 16???????
and
active vertex piplines 6??????

i mean wtf isnt this 7900gs 256 mb card supposed to have like 20 pipeline compared to the 7900gt and 7 vertex pipelines not 6?????
wtf is happening lol
 
I had the same problem pretty much with that board only a few weeks back using a agp gfx card on it, tryed another one and it still did it, finaly stopped doing it when I used a pci-express one borrowed off a mate which was werid to say the least.
Unluckily for me my my board was a month over a year old ;/
Your get a big performance hit in games with hardware acceleration in dxdiag turned off, most newish games wont even work at all I would imagine so thats not worth considering.
Can't you try the other 9800 se gfx card on another 3dgame other than silent hunter 4?
Grab a demo off fileplanet etc?
Are the temps in the bios still knackered too?
