I've decided not to go ssd and instead invest in more storage

So I'm looking for the best £/TB solution, which I think rules out 3tb drives
I'd rather a 2tb if its only a little more expensive

I'm keen on sticking with WD or seagate as I've never had one fail, but if another brand is more than a fiver less ill consider it

Recommendations?

personally i bought the 2tb hitachi deskstar becuase i have heard there are issues:

samsung f4's - firmware problems

seagate 2tb's - pcb randomly decides not to talk to mobo

western digital ears - died twice on me already

these rumours may be rubbish, but that is how i landed on the hitachi - taking delivery tommorow :)

ive not had much luck with hitachi, also the deskstar seems significantly more expensive

does look like its a lottery, and now the seagate offer has ended, is it the WD drives that are having the head stopping issues i hear about

if theres no established problems [ie the ones that do occur are just random luck] ill try a WD or seagate, if the WD are having these head issues i may just go seagate seeing as posts so far say yes and no

Obviously never heard the phrase, "hitachi DEATHstar" I had a drawer filled with 9 failed hitachi laptop drives, from seperate people over the period of 6 months. I wouldn't take a Hitachi drive for free!

I personally use the WD Green 2TB. I have two of them setup in raid0 for a file server to stream HD movies to my htpc. They're very fast for being green drives, near silent and are backed by a 3 year warranty.

I heard issues about intellispin causing issues...however none here.

I've got loads of seagate drives, and they are also solid as a rock. My reason for choosing WD was due to the offer. Either of the two will serve you well.

Like I said:

At the end of the day all the makes have people who swear by them and people who hate them.

i think im going to wait for the seagate to come back on offer, the WD is a no no with that issue, ive had too many hitachis die on me to go with those too.

will wait for OCUK to have another offer for the seagate to be under 60 or find another seller
