I have Virgin Media 20mb and my Linksys WRT54G v1.1 router with hacked firmware only seems to get 13mb or so. I tried plugging PC into modem and gets full speed so its the router.

So what router will support full 20mb?

Linksys WRT54GL 54Mbps?

Linksys WRT54GL with tomato firmware. Recieved mine last week and flashed it right away, cracking bit of kit. Have setup QOS so that my traffic recieves priority over everyone else :D

I'll have to check tonight and post back.. When I got the router I'm using, the GLs were nowhere to be seen.

What speedtests you doing so I can get an accurate comparison?

Another vote for this exact setup - it is just pure Zen.

Ok i get 11,022 KB/s dl and 732 KB/s ul to London
via the router..

17,131 KB/s dl and 732 KB/s ul to London again..

this will explain a few issues I've had with Internets speeds.

Same Router and 1.1v tomato also, getting horrendous speeds through router and directly connected.

When it's all working fine I get full 20mb through.

Are you saying the GL is the router to go for?

I've only ever owned 2 routers, first was a Draytek Vigor 2600 and was solid as a big block of granite covered in reinforced concrete, ran for months and months on end without requiring any reboots (only ever rebooted for updating settings and firmware)

the Linksys has lots of fancy bells and whistles and performs ok, but is less reliable, it does cut out sometimes requiring a reset often after heavy or extended use.

But for the price and open source firmware its great!

Dangerous, try the latest version of either DD-WRT or Tomato if you haven't already, the hardware you're using should in theory handle 20mbit with no problems at all, for the sake of two minutes to flash/reboot it's probably quicker than the time it would take you to buy a new one :P

I'm using the old UK Belkin Gigabit 4 port router with Virgin and get 20mb without any problem - not need to mess about with the firmware and yet to have any issues - really like Belkin and they have a pretty good tech support :D Can dig out the model number if it helps?
