Specs are:

i5 750
MSI mobo
4 gig
2 HD's
1 SSD 120gb
R9 280

My old psu was Enermax 650w but it doesn't have an 8-pin connector...

I'm looking at the Corsair CS550M 80 plus gold, are there any better option before I buy?

I'll be upgrading soon but only to a newer i5 with 8gb ram with perhaps a small overclock but probably not for a while.

Thanks!

Does it have a 6pin connector? You can connect a 6pin connector to an 8pin connector and the graphics will run fine! HTH

Really?!

I thought about trying it but didn't want to risk it.
Enermax is one of the best brands for PSU. As all as it has high output on 12v rail using adapters is totally fine.

Using molex/PCI-E 6pin to PCI-E 8-pin adapters itself is not risky, but more to do with people using the adapters with cheap generic PSU that got rubbish 12v rail, thus overloading their PSU and making it go pop.
