Hey guys, noticing poor performance in recent games on my set up, and im looking on upgrading with the latest influx of games coming in, batman, BF3, skyrim etc

currently have

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Processor 3.40 GHz
4 GB of ram, ddr 3 i believe
radeon hd5750
500 gb HDD
windows 7 32 bit

Could someone spec me on upgrade parts, am willing to sell the GPU for whatever money that gets me and buy a new graphics card, im thinking a 2gb 6950 is the card to go for, am also tempted to go intel, getting a new mobo and CPU, what would be the best options ? best kind of mobo/cpu that will last a while ?

thanks for any help

Well it depends on your budget. I could recommend a GTX580 sli but it's pointless if it's out of your planned price range.

if you're lookinG AT A 6950 though I assume other reasonably up to date but not over priced products would suit. An i5 2500k processor is a good choice.

At the moment your 5750 is your weakest link. If you sell it off on the bay, your would probably only get £35 in return after paying for postage to send off to the buyer.

Anyway, the good news is that Phenom IIX4 965BE is still a capable CPU...so for the best performance boost in return, you are right to consider graphic upgrade. It's really depending on your budget...that would depend what upgrade you should got for, but at least a GTX560Ti 2GB or 6950 2GB would be good. Only consider upgrading to i5 2500K and 1155 motherboard if you REALLY got money to spare...otherwise, just grab a decent CPU cooler and try to overclock your Phenom II X4 965BE to 3.8~4.0GHz.

Out of curiousity...why is your Windows 7 32-bit, not 64bit? 4GB ram is more than enough for the 64-bit Windows 7.

I'd just do the gfx card upgrade initially and see how you're performing then
Whilst the intel is better than your current AMD it's prob not worth the upgrade cost IMO
Try your gfx first n if it's not enough then look at core components

Yea should have went for 64 bit, thinking now then to go for a new graphics card, and hold to next year and go and overclock the phenom or if i need extra performance get an i5, gives me more time to save, best idea ? dont want to be spending a while amount, out of curiousity though what would be the best dualset up ? mobo and procesor for an i core system ? i5 2500k for example, heard there good for gaming. wat mobo would suit that CPU ?

could someone spec me a list of viable options, some dont have to take cost into account, thanks !

Windows 7 should have been provided with both 32 and 64 bit disks, you just need to reinstall using the correct disk, if for some reason you don't have one contact MS and they'll send you one for a nominal fee
I would spec you but I'm on phone, I really doubt you'll need to upgrade that though

If I were you, the following steps is what I would do, when/or if I have money to spare:
1. Upgrade graphic card to either GTX560Ti 2GB or 6950 2GB and grab a decent half decent CPU cooler and overclock the the Phenom II X4 965BE
2. Upgrade to i5 2500K and a decent socket 1155 P67/Z68 motherboard that support Crossfire/SLI; CPU cooler for the Phenom II X4 965BE and the DDR3 RAM can be carried across
3. Grab another GTX560Ti 2GB/6950 2GB to SLI/Crossfire (and upgrade the PSU if it's not powerful enough.

If you got around £500 budget right now, then you could probably forget about doing anything with your current AMD and upgrade straight to 2500K (£160~£170), P67/Z68 motherboard that support Crossfire/SLI (£110~£130), graphic card (£200~£215).

What PSU you got at the moment by the way? Also is your Windows 7 OEM...so you don't have the 64-bit version CD? Problem with 32-bit Windows is that it would only address a total of 4GB ram...with the graphic card VRAM included.

no point going for i2500k for gaming with your set up yet.

get best graphics card you can.

most games are gpu bound and your cpu will match even the quickest in bf3 .

youll just be wasting your money.

for eg buy 2500k mobo and ram deal play bf3 guess the fps difference ? = you will get higher on the phenom for best part of losing 300-350 quid (haha)

in other stuff the intel set up will be quicker but in gaming at moment its a waste . will be for another year.

right now upgrading is not worth the dosh unless you do anything taxing on the pc. but the real world difference won't be worth it day to day generally.

get the very best card you can afford now the higher the VRAM the better .

ok guys i'll definetely be upgrading the graphics card very soon, hopefully before my birthday, 13th november think that would be the time to go for it, what would you guys recomend ? im currently thinking a 2gb 6950 but could stretch a bit higher if its worth going a bit higher to see much of a difference, what are the gtx 570, 580 like etc ?

cheers again !!
