Hello,
Im in need a of a new PC, got £1400 to spend, I only really play games on it.
I just want a top end gaming machine for that budget if possible.
Got monitor, blue ray drive, keyboard + mouse. Just need tower/components.

Personally I would go for this setup

Okay it might be slightly over 1400 lol but ive included the OS aswell. This system would play anything and be really fast too. The main reason for the cost is the SSD but I would highly recommend getting one. The case and cooling could be a little cheaper but if your spending around £1400 you might aswell make it look good.

That's a great spec but he may aswell just go for the 64gb SSD version for OS/Apps as they aren't really beneficial in games anyway except for maybe a few.

your gaming rig awaits. not really sure what to do with the remaining £150
do you need an OS, because that would take up ~£65 of it with the OS + HDD deal

compared to dmarshal's rig:
- i7 will make no difference over the i5 for gaming
- card is flashable to a 6970 (and has 2GB dedicated memory, not 1GB)
- faster SSD

YOUR BASKET
2 x Asus ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £209.99
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive £185.99
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor with FREE Operation Flashpoint Red River Game £169.99
1 x MSI P67A-GD53 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** £109.99
1 x XFX 750W Black Edition Modular Power Supply £94.99
1 x Coolermaster CM-690 II Advanced Dominator Case - Black £76.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) £69.59

As it's mainly for gaming an i7 won't benefit you much as games don't make use of the hyperthreading. If you want to save money, go for an i5-2500k based system, otherwise the above spec is very good!

Not really.

No point in CF 1GB HD6950s really - yes they're fast, but complete overkill and makes future upgrades a royal pain in the arse (BOTH cards will have to be replaced, rather than adding in another).

I'd be looking at nvidia atm sadly. The GTX560Ti is more capable than both versions of HD6950 at a cheaper price.

If you're spending around £300 on graphics the GTX570 is the way to go!

Only other fault with the spec is the cooler - the H50 isn't brilliant and suffers from leaks amongst other issues. The Antec Kuhler 620 is a better, cheaper bet (it's effectively a re-branded, updated version).

Im thinking add another 6990 later on, for the best possible gaming experience.

There should be a list of you're specs as a sticky stulid you have probably done every need and budget by now.

whats so hard about removing two graphics cards? 'oh god, so much effort, i have to remove two graphics cards, im gonna die from the exertion'
selling them shouldnt be too much of a problem. im sure theres a market for low end cards (which they would be when you want to remove them) and the possibility of crossfire might interest buyers

the antec has also had its fair share of problems. ive heard they have problems with the mounting system. and since when has the H50 been a bad cooler???? never heard of any problems with them atall

*edit*
stulid, why go for the 6990, when crossfired flashed 6950's would be better and £80 cheaper (surely more than the value of those games)

Did you read underneath?

ah, i see.
(i assume 1000W is enough for two of those cards)

im not even going to mention x8/x8 vs x16/x16 crossfire. personally im not convinced x8/x8 is enough, but you know more than me about these things, and you seem to think x8/x8 will be fine for this card

what you really wanted was the link underneath that test, 16/16 vs 8/8

no, i wanted x4/x4, because the 6990 and 590 are basically two 6970's or 580's in crossfire, and will need a similar amount of data to keep them saturated, so if x4 is a bottleneck for a 580, then x8 would be a bottleneck for a 590.

Well your logic is flawed but oh well, its late.
