My pcs original hard drive is starting to get abit full and now im wanting a new one.
i have a
SAMSUNG HD160JJ which is 160gig. The only things i have on it is vista updates. Iv never used it for anything else.
Since i got the pc iv been useing it for all sorts gaming media etc but it got full to easy then out of the blue i got a virus and EVERYTHING got wiped. That day i restored my pc back to original settings and there was nothing on it.
then i decided while there was nothing on it i went out and bought an external HD for all my games, movies, progams etc and keep the original internal one for the vista updates.

Now today iv got 11gig left in the drive and there is NOTHING on it appart from vista updates and a antivirus program. Now i want to get another internal HD for the same reason. For updates only and maybe to install windows XP ?

would that fit along side the other internal one?
My plan is to restore my pc back to default and install all the updates again on the new hd and maybe install windows XP if i can.

I have another 2 slots avaliable along side my other HD.

is the samsung quiet?

I also am looking for a 500GB or so drive, since I'm getting a refund on my dodgy Seagate. I had been looking at this one

I was leaning towards the 500gb because it has a 32meg cache and a 5yr warranty. Mind, that extra 140gb would be handy!

would agree with Atom's rec. - my Samsung F1 750 gb HD failed after 6mths light use which did not impress.

Am looking myself to replace with a W D dive - the 'Black' variety with the 32mb cache . It's my understanding that the 'black' is a more modern design and although the exta cache is probably not worth the extra £5 the extra 2yrs warranty is.

Can recommend the 1TB WD Black from point of view of performance and noise levels. Not had it long enough to know if it will last, come back in 3 yrs!.

So many to choose from lol. Its not the size that matters its if it fits and can run fast but silently. The 640gig one looks good but i dont know if that will fit my pc. With a extra 140 gig it would be worth getting.
The Samsung SpinPoint F1 will fit my pc and its the right size but its out of stock LOL
another thing im not sure about
whats all thise raid 1 and raid 0 etc setups. I know 1 is for performance and 0 is for safety. ( or other way around i forgot ) How would i set it up ? or will OC set it up for me?

RAID is simple to setup (when you know what you are doing) I read a lot of forum posts and how to's to setup my RAID.

find the Manual for your motherboard and it gives you a step by step guide as to how to setup RAID.

My mistake was that i had the SATA cable connected in the wrong port and my raid controler was not picking it up (LOL). so it took some time for me to figure it out.

RAID-0 is for performance
RAID-1 is for safety.

How can 160gb get used up solely by Vista if your using a second drive for documents and media? Sounds like something else is wrong.

I've bought a 1tb WD Black last week.
