Could be wrong, but iirc the Intel HD3000 is better than the AMD HD4250 (sure Stulid will tell me if I'm remembering wrong :p)

EDIT: Not only massive overkill, but probs better than your PC!

I think you have massively missed some post in this thread:D

What is the CHEAPEST I can do a full system for for him?

Yeah, hence the edit :p

Cheap? (Will do all he wants, but it's by no means brilliant with DDR2 and some pretty awful onboard)

The 880G is the same speed onboard GPU as a cheaper 785G etc motherboard GPU.

it just costs more.

all cheaper 700 series have HD 3000 graphics
cheapest 785G has HD 4200 graphics and is £58
gigabyte 880G has HD 4200 graphics and is £55
asus 880G has HD 4250 graphics and is £59

doesnt seem like much of a saving to me, and by the looks of things has worse onboard graphics. however, how much worse i dont know

I said etc, a 760G motherboard such as a Asus M4A78LT-M is cheaper.

The reviews I seen a while ago showed no benefits.

theres a difference in UVD version from 1.0 to 2.0 to help with better video editing, but the other differences dont add zilch in performance.

any difference between the HD 3000 and HD 4250 graphics? only reason i've ignored the other motherboards is because im assuming the HD3000 is a lot worse

PERFECT :D

When he gets older he can start saving his pocket money if you chooses to upgrade his machine :D
He can have my old monitor so I can buy 2 new 1s for my system :D

He is 7, I really doubt he will mind, he will only be accessing things like games on BBC website etc so doesnt need to be super-quick or owt

Have you thought about going with an Acer REVO? Can be had for just under £200+ OS and should be powerful enough, then when he out grows it you've got a new HTPC =]

Possible things to change:

Microsoft Windows XP?
160GB HDD?
AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 250 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) - Guess this doesnt matter
1GB RAM?
Just a normal CD Drive

May be cheaper and like I said before he can always upgrade / buy his own when he wants something better.
My 3 year old will want to use it so maybe can be his when my 7 year old gets older and wants to get a better 1?

You said you wanted it as cheap as possible, so why you are dismissing it I dont understand? same CPU/HDD, saves having to buy DDR3 ram in the future too.

This is the motherboard include with the barebones system - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4N68TM_LE/ - it has a VGA output for the geforce graphics.
