Need PSU recommendation for Nvidia 480

Just ordered a POV Nvidia 480 however I've come to the realisation that my OCZ 600W probably would be cutting it a bit fine (36A on the 12v rail, but read the 480 needs at least 42A), and as it only has 1 x 6pin and 1 x 8pin connectors I'm after a PSU with at least 2 x 6pin and an 8pin as I intend to use my trusty 8800 for a Physix card rather than putting it to sleep so to speak!

Budget is £100 squids, could someone please make me a recommendation as picking the right PSU has never been my strong suit!

You might be ok with what you have, may be worth a try as they tend to overstate requirments. And the physx is really not that necessary, the 480 should be able to handle things I think tacking an 8800 on is unlikley to change much other than power, heat and connection requirments...if you scrap the physx idea you will probably be ok.

Other than that perhaps stretch to the Corsair hx850? I have the 750 and it is flawless.

funny i was in the nearly exact situation with a OCZ 600W and GTX260 all running sweet, was going to update tp a 470 (i now have) and decided to source a PSU before it came.

i went with the Corsair 750W, now running GTX470, GTX260 (PhYsX) Mobo 4 gig of Ram 3 hard drives 1 SSD two watercooling loops and a fan controler.

all without breaking a sweat,

PS: the PSU you have is actually rated for 700W, and uses all the same componants as the 700W, they just couldnt give it 80+ certification at 700W so they downgraded it to 600W

Thats what I have, it is excellent. Having said that if you can afford it it might be worth going for the 850- they are guaranteed for 5 years and if you find yourself in the same situation 3 years down the line, that extra 100 watts might come in handy and it is not much more.

<edit> just checked online and if you look there is the 750 on offer to pretty much your budget which is an excellent deal from a 'small and to the point' retailer.

Well, looks like Corsair it is lol! The TX950W (non modular which doesn't bother me) is £130.99 so sounds like a bargain.

Thanks for the advice, I'm bloody useless when it comes to Psu's! :D
 
A cheaper alternative to the Corsair PSUs are the Xfx PSUs. They use the same OEM PSUs as many of the Corsair range (Seasonic M12D, the 750 and 850 use CWT models which are slightly louder =/) and are a good 15-20 quid cheaper. You can get an Xfx850w for the same price as a HX750
 
I would have went with the HX750, I have it and the modular flat cables make a big difference in keeping the case tidy and maximizing airflow, the 950 won't even be enough to run 2x480 SLI.
 
I've just bought a seasonic x-750 in anticipation for a gtx 480. Not installed it yet but anything that comes in a velvet bag is certain to be awesome.

Looks like the TX950W will be ideal for future expansion then, I'm not into gfx card clocking, and I don't tend to put heavy clocks on the Cpu.
