Have clearance issue with a true 120 exteam in push pull (2 fans)

In an Asus rampage III extream???

Thank loads as I'm about to order....

are you about to order RAM, cooler and mobo, or just cooler?

if your ordering everything i would seriously suggest making a thread about the whole build

Yea I'm doing a whole build with 2 6950... Before I order parts I wanna make sure ram fits with cooler.... If I use the second set of ram sockets would this be ok?

i'm struggling to come up with a reason to go with an X58 chipset rather than a P67/Z68 + sandybridge.

what do you use the computer for , and whats your budget?

*edit*
ive just seen your current computer, and i would like to know what the hell is wrong with 3 GTX480's in SLI, and how you expect 2 6950's in crossfire to beat it.

there is absolutly no need to upgrade any part of your current computer from where it is right now, however, if you do want an upgrade, do something like this:

this is by no means a final spec. it is simply a combination of ideas you could use for an upgrade. for example, i have two options of solid state drive upgrade listed, depending on how much you want to spend there.

YOUR BASKET
3 x Samsung S27A950D 27" 120Hz 3D Widescreen Ultra Thin LED Monitor - Glossy Black £599.99
3 x OcUK Extreme H2O Nvidia GTX 580 1536MB GDDR5 £465.98
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 256GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive £341.99
1 x Gigabyte Z68X-UD7 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £289.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 800D Full Tower Case - Black £224.99
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive £174.98
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor £173.99
1 x OCZ ZX Series 1250W '80 Plus Gold Certified' Modular Power Supply £169.99
1 x Nvidia GeForce 3D Vision Kit £107.99
2 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) £69.98

1 x LG CH10LS20 10x BluRay-ROM / 16x DVD±RW Drive - Black (Retail) £53.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 32MB Cache - OEM (ST31000524AS) £39.98
1 x LiteOn IHAS124-19 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £16.99
Total : £5,046.35 (includes shipping : £43.60).

also, since i know virtually nothing about watercooling, i have simply included a waterblock for your processor as the cooling option, because a decent custom loop water cooling system will smash any air cooler.

Dont be patronising mate the system I'm building is for a friend...

My system is 2 580,s lightening pushing 3 screens 24inch with a more powerful PSU that is all that's changed in my spec list...

My mate got just over a grand to spend in parts...

Why the x58 architecture you ask that is because he bought an i7 920 D0 core dirt cheap so I have to build everything around this chipset...

he already has a 30inch monitor and PSU and SSD drive...

The spec I have come up with for him is

Asus rampage III mobo
Corsair vengeance 12gb ram
2 6950 ati cards 2gb ones in CF
TRUE 120 extreme heatsink.
And a HAF X gaming case to mount it all in.

Rather than being patronising listen to what I'm actually asking rather that speccing me a silly rig.

sorry if it came over patronising, i was just very surprised that you wanted an upgrade to what was already a great rig, it wasnt meant to be like that atall.
i had no way of knowing you were making this for a friend so i assumed you were trying to upgrade your already amazing computer and gave multiple suggestions (which probably looked silly because its hard to improve on what you had)

by the way, its good to see someone with an amazingly good computer who puts it to good use (the triple screen setup)

back to the spec though. depending on what price he can get for it, it might be worth selling the i7 920 because the i5 2500k kicks it into the middle of next week: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/47?vs=288
the i5 can probably be overclocked more too (4.6-4.8Ghz is the usual overclock you get for them)

if you will be gaming then there is almost no need to get 12GB of ram. 4GB is the usual recommendation for a gaming computer because both the latest AMD and the latest intel chips use dual channel ram, not triple. so, 6GB will be more than enough, and give more room in the budget for a better graphics card.

lastly, i'm going to assume that the PSU is a decent make that is 750W or more, and that he already has a normal HDD and DVD drive

2 x MSI GeForce GTX 570 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £269.99
1 x Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard £149.98
1 x Cooler Master HAF X Gaming Tower Case - Black (RC-942) £142.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel (CMX6GX3M3A1600C9) £59.99

Total : £960.42 (includes shipping : £13.75).

i dont know what the performance of the TRUE 120 heatsink is like, so ive simply recommended what is generally considered to be the best heatsink on the market today (it definitly wouldnt clear the vengance ram though
