Sorry, I know these threads get started all the time.

Essentially I was with Be* for 3 years and was very happy with them. Max speeds all the time, and even though our network (5 people) were iPlayer/ITV/C4OD etc. junkies we could still do what we wanted irrespective of the time of the day. There was no capping, no instigating a stupid 'fair use' policy and found the performance unwavering even at peak times.

However having moved I've found out that Be*'s not in the area, and by word of mouth alone I can't find a reliable equivalent which was around £13/month.

We have a Sky Package here so am thinking of joining their free broad band service but don't know what it's like. I don't have an 02 number but do have an Orange PAYG number. BT with all their adverts appear to be a good option but are just under double the price. Zen don't do an unlimited package. Virgin Media appear to have a lot of issues.

Can you guys suggest anything else please? Thanks in advance.

The following services are available in your location:
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
Orbital / VFast Wireless
Virgin Media (Cable)

As expected no LLU unfortunately. :(

This was my old area :

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale SDSL
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Tiscali LLU
Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)
Virgin Media (Cable)

Virgin Media (Cable) is going to be your best bet.

What exactly are the problems you've heard about them, was it actually the cable services being referred or ADSL?

That's the trouble, I've heard they cap and suffer a lot at peak times. We also have a BT line and would prefer to still use the phone and let the DSL come through a filter. Getting Virgin would entail getting the £11.99 phone line too. All in all not keen on it.

Check out from neighbours/forums what they are like in your area. If you're in a decent area, Virgin can't be beat - pings are at least 10ms better than DSL and you get what you pay for with regards to speeds.

Caps are nothing to be concerned about, You can download a few GB every day without hitting them at all, and from 9pm to 10am they are completely uncapped. I used to easily pull down around 300GB a month on the 10Mb service without hitting a cap at all, and could have done far more if I'd wanted.
Even if you are capped, it's to 25% of your base speed, which is still plenty for web browsing and youtube, and your pings remain rock solid for gaming.

virgin 50mb IIRC they don't cap 50mb well i downloaded my entire steam folder last week around 250 GB worth and i wasn't capped and my speed as been a rock solid stable 50 down and 1.5 up since i had it installed
