Need some advice dealing with Virgin

I suppose it really depends on who you get that shows up. When I had my install they were planning on taking out a line of bricks from my drive way to get the line in since I didnt have any underground trucking to put the line through. I wasnt really happy with having my drive dug up but if that was the only way I said ok, then the other guy in the van actually said about using the trunking from next door to run another line through (they are not suppose to do this since its agaisnt there own policy) I spoke to the guy who lives next door and he said he didnt mind at all since it wouldnt really affect his connection anyway so the virgin dude made a phone call to his boss and becuase both myself and my neighbour were in agreement he allowed them to do it. So they got the cable in and I told them were I would like to position and they just ran a length of cable around the bottom of the house and into the wall were I wanted it no problem. I was all set to give the guys a crate of stella for helping me out but then when he was drilling from inside the house to the outside the muppet drilled right through the down pipe of the guttering so I wasnt to impressed with that but he was very sorry about it and since he had messed up I asked him to run me off a big length of cable so that if i ever needed to move the modem I could, he was only to happy to help and since I was happy I gave them the stella in the end.

I would suggest being honest from the outset when they arrive tell them exactly what you want and were you want it and then tell them there is a nice bonus if they can do it. When its done pay them the money I think you will find they will be more than happy to help if they know they are getting a cash incentive :)

What’s the recommended bribery level to get Virgin installers to do the job they’re being paid for?

Maybe it’s a regional thing. Around here (Warwickshire) politeness and a plentiful supply of tea/coffee seems to get the job done.

im currently on vist 8 trying get them to fix my boxes aparently a booster is all i need for 3 hd boxes and 2 tivo boxes and my 100meg net. all it needs is a repull with a thicker cable. but there telling me there powerlevels are fine so it doesnt need it .
but the lack of picture on the boxes tells me a diffrent story

I have nothing but good things to say about my Virgin engineer(s).

He came bang on schedule with all the kit and spent close to 2 hours trying to run the cable from the existing access point in my flat to the new location (via the loft) into the central hallway cupboard.

Unfortunately we couldn't get it up the walls on our own so he made his apologies that he had to attend to another fitting to ensure he wasn't late for them but reassured me he'd return after hours.

True enough he returned with two others at about 6 in the evening and between them they devised a cunning plan that they managed to implement in about 30 minutes.

After a quick check of the router and V+ Box (and countless cups of tea and coffee later) they were on their way. I'd post their names here if I could remember!

Last 2 sets of VM guys i had were sweet as.

2 South African dudes. Moved a cable drilled some holes. No problems at all.
1 Amusing bloke we talked about black ops and he was in awe of my gaming PC lol.

Id never tip them... what's that all about. ? :P

And I thought my experience with Virgin was bad... for me, a guy stumbled through the door in the afternoon unannounced, haphazardly wired stuff in and left a cable mess on the floor in my study. I then got about 1.5 Mbps on my up to 20 Mb package. After a month of digging and talking to their guys in the forum I managed to convince them (after being put through to their tech department) that they put me on the wrong line profile (which they admitted to) and was told that it would take 30 days of complete downtime to change me over to the correct one. I requested a MAC then and there. :p
