Setup so far is a 2.1 system, via a creative extigy outputting to an Arcam P65/A75 to a pair of B&W 601s an active B&W ASW 300 subwoofer, ancient setup i know....

I think the time has come to go 5.1. I'm thinking of a Creative X-Fi Surround 5.1 Xtreme External USB for my htpc.

Here is where it gets tricky and i dont know whats best....

I can either keep my 2.1 setup, buy a AV receiver (Yamaha RXV363?) with "Pre-out", and use the AV receiver to power the rear pair and center, and the pre-outs will goto the existing 2.1 setup

OR

I can sell off my Arcams, and just output the whole kaboodle native from the AV receiver, in which case i'll need to buy a pretty expensive AV receiver...(Yamaha 763?)

Whaddaya thinks?

Personally I would do what I did :D

Get the 363 (if you need the HDMI) otherwise get the 361 for £120. That is absolute bargain. Output your movies games whatever via digital to that for all the surround goodness. Perhaps get a sub/sat system unless you have enough space otherwise.

Keep your Arcam and BW setup and out put using the stereo Line out to that for your hifi music. This way you get the best of both worlds.

Or you could find an amp with preouts and hook your arcam into it, but You may or may not prefer to do it this way for various reasons.

Sell the Arcam P65/A75 & get an Arcam AVR280 for 400 notes. Job done.

Thanks. Very nice idea, it'll be a toss up between a Yamaha 763 (95 watts/channel) which is about 300 squids and the arcam (80watts/channel), which is 400.

Then again, arcams play nice with my B&Ws.... :D
