Need some advice, What am I entitled to? (Gigabyte RMA)

Wow. Id be absolutely raging.

Updating drivers is a standard part of PC usage. Particularly gaming. Drivers may give minor stability issues or performance differences but Ive never had them put my PC out of action in the way youre experiencing.

So they reinstall the software, try a game, send it back and then say "don't update anything" . I find that insane. So your expensive Laptop needs to just fall behind on driver updates ? Brilliant.

Glad I bought an MSI now.

Exactly. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Hoping for a comment from Gigabyte. This really isn't acceptable.

The worst thing is they will probably just send it back to me now again and say they've done all they can.

I watched that video of yours too. The whole Artifacting and stuttering is something that I would personally attribute to a GFX card problem. In desktop PCs Ive had similar due to Overclocking or cards failing.

Its a shame they are doing this because this forum is a good place for them to advertise and put across a good impression, yet your honest updates are making them look crap. They might be good but I can tell this thread will put off potential buyers.

Yep i know. Initially it was fine and i was very happy with my purchase. I recommended these laptops like crazy and fully backed Gigabyte. Now my perception has completely changed and I won't be purchasing anything from them anytime soon.

It's the fact you have a spent such a large amount of money and they are trying to keep costs down on their end. If a household appliance failed within 8 months the retailer / manufacturer would almost definitely replace or fix it without any drama.

It's clear you aren't trying to pull a fast one and all you want is a good working laptop. It's not too much to ask imo.

If they had fixed it and returned it I wouldn't be bothered. But it came back in a worse state than when I sent it meaning i've had to send it twice costing me a total of £60 (because i had to insure it for up to £1200 worth). Then theres the fact that i've been without a laptop for 2 weeks and to be told that all theyve done is basically reinstall windows and advised me to not update any drivers is just ridiculous.

I'm gonna try and contact the gigabyte rep on here and see if he has any comment.

So as a final update they are now sending it back to me again. I've been told that it passed all tests etc.

Still pretty gutted that i now won't be able to update any drivers :/ Don't really know what else I can do though.

Definitely will be the last time I make a purchase from Gigabyte I think.

might be worthwhile speaking to the retailer you bought it from?

doesn't really sound like its fit for purpose in all fairness. bought on CC?

Definitely raise this with the GB rep on these forums. The point about not being able to update the drivers is a pile of crock and I would be concerned that the technician is telling you this. Sometimes you have to upgrade drivers as the current ones are fundamentally broken. In fact more often than the not the fist port of call for diagnosing a problem is ensuring you have the latest drivers installed.

Yeah how can I directly contact him?

Give them one last try to fix it or replace it, after that id go to ur retailer and further than that trading standards etc on an item not fit for use. Im not clued up but i returned one laptop 5 times to that purple place each time refused me a refund as it was only dead pixels etc. Start mentioning not fit for purpose trading standards etc manager stepped in cash was in my hand within 3 hours (he had none in till damn monday) i was out door and got one online

Hmmm I have considered getting trading standards involved. Depends what happens when I get it back. If it's still messing up then I will probably do that. I've asked Gigabyte support multiple times for at least a depreciated refund and they just ignore me. In fact they ignored most of my questions.

I bought it from Overclockers and they've simply said that it needs to be resolved by Gigabyte as i've had the laptop for around 8 months now.

So yeah :/ Kind of bummed

It was bought from Overclockers and they told me I needed to resolve it with Gigabyte. It was bought on a VISA debit card.

Your contract is with Overclockers not GIgabyte. I would have a read off the sale of goods act and then make a claim under this.

http://sogahub.tradingstandards.gov.uk/explained

Section 5 will contain everything you need.

It's not your responsibility to be sending it to the manufacturer for repair at your cost.

I hope this gets resolved soon. Chances are you will run a game different to Grid and it will fail again the same way.

Definitely chase it through Sale of Goods. I'd be particularly peed off about the postage costs.

Thanks for linking me to this. The laptop should be back with me today so I will give it a good test and see If it's resolved. Although Gigabyte have advised me to not update drivers I think I will just in case that causes the problem. It's simply unacceptable to every person ive spoken to that I should not be able to update the drivers. So if this causes the problem again I will contact overclockers.

Ask if overclockers would mind handling the RMA, because they will find the problem for you and should tell Gigabyte not to rip you off. As it is idling so high you can tell just from that something is wrong. I will be keeping a close eye on this because I normally like Gigabyte, but this is making me change my mind.
