Hello

I am currently in possesion of a Geforce GTX 295 which i have been running since September 09 and sadly it would seem it is on its last legs, the fan keeps stopping on it. I have been cleaning it over the course of its life so im guessing that the fan motor is on the way out because when it does stop the fan seems very stiff when put under slight finger presure.

I am now on the hunt for something to replace this piece of gold dust with that will match or outperform it, i am not keen on spending £700 on one of these news 590s and doing an RMA on the card seems like such hassle. (Not to OCUK but Gainward)

I understand that the card i have is a Dual GPU? so my main question is if i bought a single GPU one would it match the performance/beat it. I am looking for a card that will play all the current games pluss will last me for a few years.

I am not super computer hardware tech wizzard but i do understand some stuff so please keep the riffraff to a minimum.

Thanks

Richard

I would recommend a Gigabyte 480 SOC, on here for £240, it's about 12% faster than your 295 and a lot quieter. The SOC model gets over the fermi problems of temps and noise.

AMD 6970 would be about as fast as your 295 but a lot quieter and more efficient. (If you can get a rev 1 6950 and are happy flashing it some flash to full 6970 spec, great bang for the buck with a little risk)

GTX 580 is the fastest single GPU,hardly any faster than a GB 480 SOC and £380 but more overclocking headroom.

For dual GPUs the 6990 seems to edge it over the 590 but it is louder than your 295 and costs about £500
