Hello guys.
My mate just asked me to check his pc. Apparently his pc died on him during normal use.
Symptoms are:
Completely unresponsive to power. No LED's, nothing starts. Complete silence. I've checked power supply cable. It's ok. Tried taking out memories. No luck. Took our bios battery. Tried different PSU. Checked power button. Still nothing. I've been looking for answer out there but couldn't find it. I think it's CPU or Mobo's fault. But how one can tell which one without reseating CPU on different motherboard. Don't have any spares to do it on my own.
Mobo is MSI G41TM-P31, socket 775. Don't know anything about CPU.
I would appreciate any advice from anybody. Thanks.

If you've checked the power cable, the ram, the graphics card, and the power supply itself then its gotta b either the mobo or the cpu as you suggested.

i'd guess 95% that its the mobo. unless ur mate was overclocking the cpu with crazy voltages and temps to go with it. Motherboards tend to break radomly more often than CPU'S in my experience.

Unfortunately i can't think of any other way to check both other than by re-seating the cpu on another "working" mobo or vice versa.:(

Good luck with it.

:)

Just been thinking on this.

If it IS the CPU that has failed, the mobo SHOULD be lighting up even before u power it up regardless. And usually, if it is the cpu which has failed, the pc would start up and the mobo would probably bleep like mad suggesting a fault.

If there is no sign of life on the mobo when the power supply is connected and switched on, dead mobo me thinks.

Best outcome, dead mobo over dead cpu. Being a 775 socket, probaly cheaper to buy a mobo rather than a 775 socket cpu.

its motherboard,if no lights come on the motherboard or the cpu fan doesnt spin, youve tried another psu it can only be the motherboard, even with no cpu installed the board would light up

Thanks for answers guys. I thought that it might be mobo. I'm gonna order new and we'll see. Cheers.
I think thread is closed.

Ps. Pc wasn't overclocked at all. It's basic office box with integrated graphics. It was ordered on amazon from strange company selling cheap pc's. No good idea IMO :)
