Thinking about getting an Amiga emu up and running on my PC - last time I tried was a couple of years ago and it was WinUAE, so I'm not up on the latest developments.

Can anyone advise what I need to get up and running?

Really want to play the old games I used to play like Dungeon Master, Robin Hood , Megatraveller, Populous etc!

As well as the emulator itself you are going to need a set of kick start roms. If you happen to have an old amiga you can obtain them from it (don't know how - Google is your friend). If you don't you may be lucky and find some on the net - but I think you'll find it's actually illegal to download and use them (not that that normally stops anybody.)

Okay sorry if this breaches rules and such.

I have some old Amiga workbench disks so that's not a problem (and yes I know it's illegal to download them).

Not sure about the legality of downloading the games themselves - nowhere I have seen says that it's not allowed - everywhere just mentions the kickstarts are not allowed. Could it be because they are so old - are they now abandonware?

I have WinUAE set up, all my ROMS are legal etc.

What I've been meaning to do for some time is take my ADF files and mount them to a virtual HD in the emulator, so that I can just boot up Workbench and run any software from within the emu.

Yeah WinUAE works really well. Been using it for years. Latest versions are very stable as well. Nearly every Amiga game will also work some need different config files but you will work it out quickly.

There are many legal adf files around on the web you just need to find them.

Only thing WinUAE is a little quirky at is when you play around with the default display settings it can be a pain to change back (different aspect resolutions, scaling options, gfx filters etc etc).

The virtual HD emulation within workbench also works really well and improves loading times as some people have written HD install routines for original amiga floppy disc(s) so you can in many cases virtual HD install games which were never designed to be played that way. Eliminates the floppy disc wear/tear and loading times (which you can increase up to 800% within WinUAE anyway).
