First off Hello everyone :)

Im in a bit of a pickle and cannot make my mind up what to do, as you can see my current set up is a few years old and with the latest and greatest games on the market, its starting show its age.

Thermaltake VM3000A Screwless Skull
AMD (San Diego) Athlon 64bit 4000+ 939pin 1mb L2cache
Corsair Memory TWINX2048 - 3200C2PRO 2x1GB 2x184Pin DIMM CAS2
Thermaltake Silent 560W PSU
MSI Nforce 4 K8N SLI Platinum
MSI NX8800GTX

So why i am i here, well i want your advice on whether to upgrade now or hold out for the new intel chips around christmas time.

Reason why this has been posted in the overclocking and cooling thread is that this build has yet to be Overclocked, which is another factor in the decision making.

What i would like to hear is your opinions on what i should do. I have yet to dabble with Overclocking and thought this may be the ideal time to do try it out and get that little bit more performance out of my rig untill xmas. If it is suggested that i overlcock should i go with air or water cooling and what coolers/water kit should i go with.

Many thanks

Dave

i suggest you wait at least till the end of june (or july i think, not exactly sure) because there are privce cuts and some new wolfdales due out apparently.

right now, get TRUE hsf of similar and overclock the AMD you got till then.

atleast if you go wrong with this overclock, its not the end of the world because you are looking to get a new system anyway :-)

How well/easy are the 4000+ 939 to overclock? Anyone here able to give me some tips/tricks with regards to this OC? Think i will get the tuniq tower CPU cooler.

no idea, im very new to Overclocking been reading up and following the forums here for around 8 months but never actually tried it yet. My new tuniq i ordered from OCUK will show soon so i'll start playing once its installed.
