Hi!

Ever since i installed my new palit 670 jetstream i have been getting blulescreen crashdumps when playing demanding games like crysis 2 and metro 2033. Never happened before with my old ati 5770. I need some help finding out whats wrong.

i5-750 @4.0
palit jetstream 670
gigabyte GA-p55-usb3
Silver Power Blue Lightning 600w PSU

How old is that PSU? All of the reviews seem to date from 2007 and PSUs do loose capacity over time.

There used to be some issues when swapping between ATI and Nvidia drivers. It may still be a potential problem.

The psu is about 4 years old yeah, and i use my pc a lot. I totally wiped all ati stuff off my system before installing the new nvidia drivers. I managed to play through crysis 2 with 3 crashdumps, but metro its every 20-30 min play time.

The psu allways made an irritating high pitch modulating noise when running 3D games or apps, but its certainly worse since i installed the 670.

In that case the most obvious candidate is the PSU. Difficult to prove without spending some money.

Is anything overclocked? If it is testing with everything at back stock settings is a worthwhile step.

Are you sure? Its 600w it should be able to handle a 670 i thought. If it is the psu then do you think its faulty or just not up to scratch?

Don't look at the advertised power, look at the actual performance of the unit.

This one don't look so good. Some issues with keeping the voltages up under load, and as you mention whining.

This says 18A per rails as well. What Anandtech found is not encouraging. here's their review equipment which looks serious.

IMO, your system deserves a good PSU anyway. Something like a Antec HCG 520W (yes it's lower power, but it is much more suitable than that thing), Corsair GS600, even a OCZ ZS-550 (ZS-650 on offer) will do a better job.

Cost will be around £60-£70 for a good unit.

Ok thanks for the advice, ill put the CPU back down to stock speed and try that, any recomendations for PSUs that dont make noise other than the fan noise? I was looking at the OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W.

Ok i put my i5750 down to 3.0 and the noise was allmost inaudible, played metro for an hour and no bluescreen, started pushing up to 4.0 again and the noise gets worse the closer i get to 4.0 :(

my 4.0 overclock was stable when i first overclocked it, temps were 65 under load in occt so i dont think thats the problem.

Any ideas? or do you still think its the psu.

My advice, get hold of one of those 'psu testing meter' thingies.

Check your cables are well connected, try swapping out the PCI cable for another.

If its been awhile since you swapped out cards, put the older one in to see if it gets bsod too. Might help to to identify if the psu is having problems.

Ok so i droped the cpu overclock down to 3.9 and droped the vcore a few notches and ran occt to check is its stable and it seems to be, no crashing in games woo, psu still makes a noise but as long as its not crashing it ok.

occt has a power supply tester, should i use it? Ive read that it can kill some power supplys?

If your PSU is making strange noises, then it may be worth buying a new one- £60 to potentially save your 670 if the PSU blows is worth it. I can't even hear my PSU when I'm gaming.

Another vote to change your PSU.

Just not worth it to leave as is (I certainly would not). If the PSU does let go, it could take everything with it

Definitely starting to sound like it's not up to the job.

Obviously up to you though.

PS. OCCT is about as extreme a testing application as they come.
