So far im happy with the parts in my basket (im not bothered about pre-order) but I'm having some trouble finishing it, can anyone recommend the best RAM & PSU to go in this build (no budget)

I'm still debating between RTX 4090 Founders Edition OR AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX (so advice for both if possible, I'd be interested to know which u would prefer & why?) currently using an LG-27gl850-b 1440p 144-hz monitor

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,147.94 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Spend £500-£600 extra for a faster card or save £500-600.

The Sapphire nitro 7900XTX is the closest I’ve come to spending this kind of money on a graphics card for gaming. I think that card comes closest to the ridiculous overpriced, highend GPU sweet spot.

The XTX is reasonably close in performance and obviously at least £500 cheaper. The 4090 has a bit more performance, great ray tracing performance (much better than the XTX), DLSS, and frame gen. If those features interest you then go 4090, if not XTX.

Thanks for the feedback @jigger & @gjbf1 I've only ever had/used nvidia cards (I think that's why I keep leaning towards it) but they are insanely priced so it's a difficult choice for sure

@mickyflinn Thanks for posting (I was leaning towards Corsair Vengeance but there are so many variations I get lost ) forgive me for asking what I'm sure is a dumb question but I have 2 friends (both noobs like me :D) arguing about what looks better 2 sticks or 4 (is there any benefit to going for 4? or is it a visual thing)

DLSS isn’t what people make it out to be. It’s buggy and the IQ isn’t there IMO.

Not sure on RayTracing, but my 3080 12gb isn’t anywhere near fast enough to make use of it. Unless the ray tracing performance of the 4090 is over twice that of a 3080 I wouldn’t say it should be a major buying consideration either.

It pretty much is actually.

Maybe a consideration for future games then.

IMO what comes before all else is the rasterisation performance. That’s 80-90% of what matters at purchase. The other stuff is marketing with questionable future support. Particularly when it comes to Nvidia.

6000mhz c36 is ideal for the 7800x3d and if you want Corsair below are the same speed I mentioned in Corsair vengeance .

Using 2 memory slots leaves 2 free for future upgrades but yes filling all 4 may look nice and have a miniscule performance increase but on the other hand can cause problems, so it's your call.

You could get 4 x 8 GB to fill all slots 32gb will be enough.

72-86% better raster. Huge step forward over the 3080 in performance, but also in price...

That's what I went for with a 7800X3D.

id go 360mm AIO in the front of the case
Is that you Wayne? (just kidding) my brother Wayne said the same thing (but only because he loves RGB on the CPU lol), a few of my friends have had allot of problems with AIO so i just tend to stay away from them, I'm using a Noctua NH-U12S in my current system & never had any problems with it so happy to stick with them but thanks for posting your input :)

For some cheaper alternatives, I'd look at:

- The board in your spec does have a PCI-E 5.0 SSD, but the graphics is PCI-E 4.0. This board is all PCI-E 4.0.
- Memory speed isn't that important for an X3D CPU (video), though it is a small saving on 6000.
- Games generally don't care much about your SSD (review with benches), so I wouldn't buy a premium one.
- PSU: this PSU has three ports for PCI-E 8 pins and 2 for 8 pin EPS12v, a lot of ATX 3.0 / PCIE5 PSUs only have 4 in total, which means you have to daisy chain with a three PCI-E 8 pin card like the 7900 XTX Nitro and a 2 EPS 12v motherboard. They're usually fine with a card that uses the 12/16 pin, which a 4090 does.

- CPU cooler, look at this:

@Wing-Man currently an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6GHz 6 Core (going for a complete new build cause this PC is going to a relative)

@Tetras Thanks for posting, I picked that board based on a few reviews ID seen about it paired with the 7800X3D (but admittedly I'm clueless about tech, that's why I'm here :D) the SSD is actually the one part of the build I already have  I picked it up on a deal a couple of weeks ago for £109.98 (i just added it in the basket to show as part of the build)

The 7800x3d put out a lot more heat. You could turn it down but ….

The 12 will be ok as you have one but it’s genuinely not the best

If you put a 360mm aio in the front of that case the maximum GPU length reduces to 300mm so be careful which GPU you choose.

The 4090fe is 304mm so it won't fit.

Memory speed as mentioned there's not much performance diffrence but even in the video he recommends getting 6000mhz speed as games get more demanding and the technology progresses.

It is a good board. I was just thinking about where B650 vs B650E pricing starts (with PCI-E 5.0) and Asus controversy aside, the B650E-F Strix has superior features, especially PCI-E gen and audio (integrated amp, rear spdif, 5 jacks vs 3), 2x rear USB Type-C (vs 1) and the Elite's superior VRM isn't important for a 7800X3D.
