Hi all.

I don't have much cash but I'm wanting to be able to play things like Crysis 2 and BF3 without too much hassle. :)

Current spec:-

  • Q6600 CPU @ ~3.7Ghz
  • G.Skill F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ (4GB DDR2) @ 508Mhz 15-5-5-5.0
  • ATi 4870 1GB GPU

Now I do have this running in a good DFI LanParty mobo, but it's an old chipset. P35 I believe! Would this have any negative impact on my upgrade choice below? The only thing I can see holding me back is the GPU.

Upgrade:-

  • ATi 6950 2GB GPU (and then unlock the extra shaders)
  • Additional 4GB of G.Skill RAM

Would this be an OK upgrade? Do I need to get some more RAM or is 4GB still enough? Just as there are only 2 places that I can find that still sell this model of RAM and it costs ~£95 inc. shipping. So if I don't need it that is a plus.

Thanks!

Just get the 6950. The extra RAM is not only completely unnecessary (there will be literally zero performance upgrade), but there's a good chance it'll mess up your awesome OC as well.

As above really, get the graphics card and stick with 4GB of RAM for now, I don't believe there's any games currently available which run better with 6GB+ of RAM and there probably won't be any released this year which require it.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll ditch the idea of getting anymore RAM and stick with the new GPU. :)

Thanks.
