Hi guys,

I have a major problem with my hard drive which i bought yesterday i was happy to receive and install the WD black 1tb hard drive but, after doing some digging around through the device manager and using the intel rapid storage software i noticed that my model number on the drive, is showing MB1000EBNCF instead of the proper WD1003FZEX, i've got two of these by the way.

Could anyone please help ASAP with this problem, i really hope the seller hasnt just slapped on the WD badge on back of a random drive. This as really annoyed me.

Oh yeah the firmware version is HPG2.

Thanks in advance.

Quick Google search, looks like it's a HP rebranding of the WD1003FZEX.

HP are one of the largest if not the largest customer of WD, so the same drive with a different name.

Benchmark it and compare it with a review of the WD1003FZEX chances are it will be the same or very similar unless your hardware bottlenecks it.

Ah i see now thanks for explaining it, does this happen to every WD black drive like say if i send these back and then re-order these back via overclockers would i still be in the same situation or do overclockers know what they are doing, any recommendation on what benchmarking software i should use??

Thanks for replying

Actually going to return these drives reason being is that i have connected these drives to the 6gig sata ports on my motherboard and when i load up intel rapid storage software it tells me that the drives transfer speed is set to 3gb/s which is stupid because i paid for an 6gb/s drive. What is the likelihood that overclockers will have the proper wd black 1tb drives. Any ideas??

7200 rpm HDDs haven't got past 3gb/s limitations yet or even close, 300 MB/s including overheads.

So the transfer speed is fine you only need to worry about sata III for SSDs at the moment.

You know that drive wont have any warranty with WD right?

I guess you thought you got a bargain by buying off some random on ebay but to be honest you are better off getting a drive from a proper reseller that will have a manufacturer warranty.
