hey, visted the site quite a few times but first time iv posted on forums, so hi!

Was just wondering if anyone could give me some tips :) :

my systems seems to be falling by the way side lately so i thought it was time for an upgrade so input would be greatly appreciated.

Current System:

Processor: E8500 Duo 3.16GHz @ 3.2GHz
with artic 7 fan
Memory: 4094MB RAM 1033MHZ Kingston
Hard Drive: 500 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Motherboard: P5QL Pro Asus
Computer Case: NZXT Alpha
PSU: 650W Corsair

Im currently at work and cant remeber exact details on system so please ask if more detail needed.

I was thinking of upgrading my mother board, cpu & graphics card by going with:

ATI Radeon 5870 - £275.00
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE 3.4GHz - £135.00
Titan Fenrir Special Edition - £32.98
Asus Crosshair IV Formula AMD 890FX - £169.99
= £612.97 (bit much)

Iv always been an intel and nvidia guy so far so this is a different route for me.

I was also thinking of a i5 intel and a 470gtx and different mother board?

do i even need a new CPU? can i just get a new GPU and over clock the cpu?

any help would be great.

system will be mainly for gaming.

with a flexable buget of £550

thanks for your time :D

E8500 is by no means a slouch, you could probably push it towards 4GHz and get a noticable boost for gaming. Buy a better cooler though I'd say.

Bang in a more up to date graphics card and you're flying, I'd suggest a GTX 460 with 1GB vRAM.

4GB of RAM is plenty for gaming alone.

You can put the rest to getting a new system towards the end of the year when the new stuff is out :)

edit, I take it you windows 7 ultimate is 64 bit?

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

First off, i would'nt be building a i5 rig with the socket being killed off by the end of the year with the arrival of the new Sandybridge cpu's and socket 1155.

Do you realise that your cpu should be able to overclock to around 4Ghz+? Overclock the cpu and get a new graphics card and you will get a decent boost. At least then you will be able to wait until all the new Intel cpu's and new AMD cpu's are all released next year.

Pastymuncher basically said what I wanted to say.

See if you can get a higher overclock on your CPU, as it should still be pretty decent for now. You'd need to get a better cooler though.

If you upgraded the graphics card now, you'd notice a really good performance boost. Then, if you save your pennies, you could splash out on a motherboard, RAM and processor when the new Intel/AMD processors are released.

If you bought a motherboard that supported it, you'd have the opportunity to utilize crossfire or SLi, to give you more performance if you needed it in the future.

ok thanks guys great feedback and so fast

alright il go with a new cooler and graphics card, any suggestions as to which :s want to get every possible bang for buck possible, and yes moomoo its windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

again thanks :D

yah was thinking that, il go for that one then. and the cooler should be fine right?

sorry for all the newb questions just want to get this right without making a stupid mistake haha...

thanks for the great input guys, iv made my order with OC and should arrive tomorrow, theres plenty of pc componant sellers out there with competivie prices but the community here is what lured me to buy from here, and i will in the future also..
