Hi,

Currently in the middle of building my system, and starting to question some things I've done. Help appreciated:

1. Didn't have enough screws for the standoffs, 3 missing. The mobos secured well, but would it be a risk to proceed without the missing screws.

2. I am a little confused about the EATX12v connector. My mobo manual said to remove the cap and use the 8 pin EATX12v as opposed to the 4 pin ATX12v. Is this ok?

Sorry if that sounds newbish but it's my first build.

system: Q6600, Asus P5K-E, Corsair HX520.

Thanks,

Nick

Regarding the screws, aslong as the board feels secure then thats fine, the standoff's will stop the board "flexing" when you put the ram/heatsink on (although I put them in OUTSIDE the case).

I have the P5K-E Wifi and only have the 4 pin ATX12V plugged in - Not had any problems yet. Infact, going to check what my manual says. Surely if it came with a cap on it, it means its not required :S Perhaps its required for the deluxe board which can give better voltage options for overclocking?

You have read the manual wrong. It says "Make sure to remove the cap on the EATX12V connector before connecting an 8-pin EPS +12V power plug." It doesn't say to use the 8pin rather than the 4pin. Some PSU's only have 8 pin I think, and if you didn't remove the cap it wouldn't go in or might damage the plug socket if you tried forcing it, so its just a warning.

I just read on a website to use 4 pin for dual core and 8 for quad. As long as it won't ruin anything I'll leave it as 8 pin.

Might have more Q's later, thanks for the speedy reply :)

Cool. I didn't know that was the reason for 4/8 pin. Atleast if I upgrade to penryn I will know to use the 8pin.

I didn't know it was either. I mean I've got a Gigabyte P35C_DS3R, and even though that only has a four in 12v cpu connector, it says it supports quads as well. Maybe an 8 pin connector is more stable or somethin?

Yeah that's probably it, it did say OR you can try 8 pin for quads.

Finished now :). And it POSTed first time. Only problem was the activity lights weren't flashing, but I switched them around and they're ok now.

Thanks again for the help.
