Hello all, jus bought myself a new Motherboard and CPU ..

Motherboard - Abit IP35 Pro
CPU - E6850

I've just installed that uGuru, looked at the temps - all fine except the CPU one, when an application is running it creaps up onto and slightly above the 75'c limit.

When i came to puttin the heatsink on the cpu for the first time, i didn't fit it properly as it was loose. So i did it again, but i just wiped the old paste off.

Could there simply be too much paste on the CPU ? Whats the easiest way of removing it - Small bit of Vodka ? ?

Thanks in advance

Some more details would be good. What HSF is it, just the stock cooler? Did you apply the thermal paste or was it already on the heatsink? etc

Sounds like there is poor contact between the CPU and HSF, either too little or too much thermal paste. Best to remove it all with some isopropanol which you can get from the chemists and reapply a small quantity of arctic silver 5. Lots of guides on how to do this. I guess you can use a bit of vodka since the ethanol will dissolve the thermal paste! Just avoid harsher solvents like acetone.

If you are using the stock cooler which has pre-applied thermal compound, clean the CPU and try to spread the remaining thermal compound out evenly on the HSF with an old credit card. Then keep the pressure on the HSF as you reattach it.

Ye, its the stock cooler to the E6850 - Applied it myself, i had orderd the Artic Cooling paste but it didn't get deliver'd the same day - Comes tommorow so i bought some cheap and nasty from the local PC shop :( .. Think i might have applied it crappy

Did you clean the pre-applied stuff off the stock cooler?

Best thing to do is clean everything up with some isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol) from the chemist and apply a small quantity of decent paste when it arrives tomorrow. You only need a small amount, too much is bad for heat transfer. Have a search on applying arctic silver for some advice, literally talking a ball bearing sized amount. You want to keep temps under load below 70 ideally. Plus 1am must be a bad time for fixing a new HSF, lol :)

Lol trust me, ive had a nightmare with it not just the HSF tho :P It booted up and gave me the NTLDR message.. Went over to my mates, wired everything up and its booted up everysince Lol.

Thanks for the tips :)

BTW, the stock cooler is rubbish for overclocking. It will limit your overclock, consider getting something better, at least an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro.

Ye, i am considering a new cooler - as this one is a total pain ! The clips are stupid Lol I also need a bigger case :D

PayDay friday so i think ill buy two new items :D

are you planning on overclocking much? just assumed so from the choice of motherboard. Maybe get a Tuniq Tower if you are splashing out on a bigger case.

*Update*

Thanks for your help on here, Took the old paste off and applied the new Artic Cooling paste - Now running at a healthy 14-17'c :D
