Hey,
My friends given me this build to get and just want to double check its all compatible.

AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
MSI 990XA-GD55 ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard
Patriot Viper Xtreme 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB Video Card
Cooler Master Elite 371 ATX Mid Tower Case
Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V Power Supply
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

If anyone could come up with a better build for that price, AMD or Intel I would be very pleased! :D
Just a question :
Will I be able to play Arma 2 on high settings with this?

You know that £520 doesn't include the motherboard and RAM price right?

Anyway, you need to remove that link, you can't post competitor pricing on this site..

You can list it but not say where it is from..

Example.

6300
MSI (whatever) motherboard
7950
.. ect...

total: £500

I suggest you do that..

What is your overall budget?

Sorry didnt realise I couldnt. Budget is about £600-£650. Trying to get the most I can out of it so Im going for an AMD build. Can you tell me some advantages and disadvantages apart from the obvious its cheaper but less reliable.

Less reliable? No difference!
Slower single-thread performance is the main downside for AMD based builds, which means software that uses only/mainly one or two threads will run more slowly but software that distributes work well across many threads runs just fine. The theory is that modern software should all support multi-threading better, but there will always be some things that have poor support.

Threads are links between cores.. So AMD's processors uses these threads in all there CPU's.. In threaded taks they stack up well against the intel line but when tackling old software/non-threaded software they struggle.

Whereas intel chips process from the core alone and don't rely on threads to process information...

Take two games, Skyrim and Battlefield 3

Skyrim is single threaded and the 8350 is outperformed by the i3 due to the fact not all of the CPU can be used due to the software limitation..

Battlefeild 3 though the 8350 is getting similar/same results as the 3770k/3570k (and even 3930k in some instances) due to the nature of the software..

Im not saying the 8350 is as good as the 3770k/4770k though..

Does this make it easier or have i just confused you more? :)

I personally would change the mobo, maybe asus 5a97 evo or above as it has 6+2 phases for handling the 6300/8320's power&especially If you plan to oc.

Just my opinion though, could be wrong :P

No perfect sense, thanks for clearing that up. So could you tell me if the AMD CPU would be suited for Arma or would an Intel CPU favour it more?
Also any chance you could give me a build? £600-650?

Little over budget but the mobo includes a free cooler to help OC and sweetens the deal. There is a free trial you can use for windows 8, might as well give that a bash and see if you like it before buying.

Thanks bud. I didn't bother looking in the B grade section to be fair.

There is only that one available, by the time he checks with CS if it's the new revision to solve the fan problems it'll probably have gone lol The 270X is basically a 7870LE which most of us know can trade blows with stock 7950s, it's pretty good bang for buck :)

agreed with everything Hono said above..

If you do manage to contact CS and get a response (to confirm its the new revisoin) and its still avalible, id suggest going for it..

If that isn't the case the 270X is a stunning card for the money.

Win-Win, right? :D

The MSI am3+ boards have a bad rep for overheating. I've no experience of it but you may want to consider an Asus 990 evo or pro as they have a good rep. The pro can be had for 105 new in some places. Try to make sure you get a 990fx board as it will allow crossfire in case you want it later.

You should be able to play arma on high on the 6300. However it runs poorly on any PC and it is one game where you may get 45fps on an over clocked i5 and 40 on the fx. Neither feels smooth on mods like wasteland.
