All my mother suffers from motor neurone disease and is losing the ability to speak so I'm looking for some technology to help her.

While she has been shown a text to speech hardware from the nhs this is about the size of an old fashioned typewriter and just as heavy so not suitable for carrying around.

So as the iPhone has such a good interface I thought that might be a good way to help her.

So the question is does anyone now of an app which does typing to speech. The way I'd like it to work is to have a keyboard taking up mist of the screen and then after each word is type in when the space bar is pressed the word is spoken through the in built speaker.

Any help/advice appreciated

Im afraid i carnt help with knowing if an APP is already around for that. But it is a good idea, im sure if you pitched it to a developer they would throw something together, i carnt see it being that complex to create

ok well the new iPhone 3gs has a built-in 'text-to-speech' facility. I haven't used it myself. Worth having a look. :)
