intell quad core extreme qx6700
768mb 8800gtx
Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Western Digital Raptor X 150GB WD1500AHFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache -
CoolerMaster Stacker 832 - Black Trim

Asus E616A3T Serial ATA 16x DVD-ROM
Pioneer DVR-112DBK 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter
windows vista home premium 32bit.

What other cooling do i need?

my budget is around £1500

I plan to run this system through a sharp 42" 1080p hdtv.

any help would be appreciated.

regards mick

The CPU is a bit of waste of cash, better of with a cheaper Quad Core, or Core 2 Duo i.e. 6600 or Xeon 3120
The M/B isn't bad, but there are better DS3P for instance
Raptor as your only HDD?, a pair of 7200rpm drives can beat it 7200.10s or AAKS
RAM could be replaced by Crucial Ballistix or a 4GB kit
PSU Corsair 520w/620w is better then the one you suggested
Do you really need two optical drives?
I would choose 64-bit Vista if I were you.

Ok....

All i want is a gaming computer, that i can play all current and near future games on the highest settings and resolution, no slowdown etc.
And one that i can use on my tv..

what would you suggest for the money

You've got a pretty good spec there, just add in my replacements and it should be pretty solid.

As below:

CPU - E6600
M/B - DS3P
HDD - WD 500 GB AAKS in RAID 0
RAM - 2GB Crucial Ballistix PC-2 6400
PSU - Corsair 520HX
OS - Windows Vista 64-bit

YOU COULD SAVE a lot BUY JUST GETTING THE E6600

Just looked up your items and they all have good reviews, what is the difference between the asus mother board and the one you suggested, apart from the price?

Right............ just need someone to build it now, i did go one a "build your own pc course" about ten years ago, and things have changed abit since then!

Welcome to the Forums!

Read the manuals you get with the different parts and you can't go wrong. Or if all else fails you can post on here, no one is going to bite your head off for posting silly questions

In relation to pauls spec, I would go for the DS3P as mentioned above ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-076-GI ) simply to save money.

And a E6600, because the Quad Cores.. pfft not all they are cracked up to be IMO ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-128-IN ).

I did actually find a couple of vids on utube, that sort of refreshed my memory.
just scary playing with expensice stuff, hoping i dont blow them up
