Need to get legit licence key for Win 7

its probably sold by someone with a MSDN/technet subscription so only valid for aslong as the seller keeps his subscription

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/downloads/cc150618.aspx

In most cases, MSDN subscriptions come with “perpetual” use rights—the ability to continue using the software after the subscription has expired, even though the ability to download software and product keys ends when the subscription expires.

And i believe in santa.

Fraid not my friend as I did it? Windows 7 proffessional actually in my case installed over a windows 7 home premium that wasnt legit.

Either way you download from them an iso which you can burn to disc and boot from anyway, all you really need is the key! you can find windows 7 all over the place if need be.

Oh for the love of god.
How can I get this through to people.
Why do you sit there with your fingers in your ears telling me that you know better than me.
What you have done is ILLEGAL.
What you have done is made your system no more legal than somebody who DOWNLOADED THEIR COPY OF THE OS.

When you buy the software4students package you are buying an UPGRADE.
An UPGRADE by its very nature requires you to have a product to upgrade from.
You cannot LEGALLY UPGRADE from an ILLEGAL/DODGY copy of Windows as your newly installed Windows 7 installation will be ILLEGAL.

Now, as I said above, there is nothing to physically stop you as you so cleverly told us all.
However it still means you are running an illegal copy of Windows.
Let me give you a quick example of legal Vs physical.
Now to drive a car I need a driving license.
Lets say I learn how to drive a car, but never take a test and never get a license.
What do you think happens if I jump in a car and attempt to drive it?
That's right - nothing, it still drives, however I'm driving ILLEGALLY.

You see, when you don't actually bother sticking to the license agreements (and let me tell you for a fact that an upgrade license does require a valid license to upgrade from) then there is no point buying the license in the first place.
You've spent money to make your computer run ILLEGAL software.

*I feel shouting is required as it is sometimes the only way to get things through to some people*

i would give up mate. any reasonable person understood you the first time. these people do not want to accept what they are doing is wrong so will just try to justify it. your fighting a loosing battle here i feel.

as for the OPs question, search the net for win 7 HP, there is no need for ultimate at all. plus, if it had that illegally installed, you dont know what else might be lurking on there. fresh install is the best way forward.

Well we went for the licence key option from the Microsoft website which also includes a backup of the media via post. We followed the instructions on screen where it says about your windows install is illegal and the final cost was £139 which wasnt too bad.
May had cost more than some other sites but he now knows that his windows is a 100% legit one.
