need to make a vector image out of a jpg

My friend has asked me about making a vector picture out of a JPG.

Its a logo it is, and its fairly basic image that contains a couple of words and a small logo.

I told him that graphics is not my area of interest but I will ask.

Anyone have any ideas of what he could use?

Inkscape is a free vector package.

Basically you import the jpeg, then use the trace bitmap function which will give you a vector - much trial, error and tweaking will be needed to make it into something useable however.

Can try an online conversion tool, results are mixed but simple logos should be ok. This one gives you a couple of free uploads:

You'll still need inkscape to open the EPS or SVG file.
