Was looking at the Icy-Box system, but seems they have a few problems with the Samsung F1 1TB drives, any others you recommend?

With or without the drives is fine, was looking at Drobo but think its just a bit too expensive for what we need, was also having a look at the Synology Disk Stations too.

Will need 1-2TB, room for expansion is handy, but not necessary.

Thanks :)

I've just bought a Synology DS-109J. Loads of features, quiet and good build quality.

Not used all the features yet but will be exploring more next week.

Let me know, that looks like a good price too!

Shame about 1 HDD, but no big deal. What drive you using with it?

I've got one with 2 x Samsung F1 320GB and it works okay. Does it just not like the larger 1TB one then?

By the sound of reviews, yeah unfortunately!

Although could always get two different 1TB drives, or 750GB's.

western digital my book network edition 2 1tb is what i have easy to use faultless performance dont even know its there and its even got a bit torrent client on it to

My only concern with Synology is what happens if the thing fails? They need to replace the unit with an identical unit as far as the RAID array information is concerned so that it will pick up the drives and restore the array? I am sure they thought about this, no?

Obviously people will be running a mirror RAID with the 207 models .. this is what I would do if I buy one anyway.
