Hey, to be honest I've not kept up with hardware for ages so thought I'd post in here. I've got a problem with my motherboard and it needs replacing. My current kit is this:

AMD 64 s939 3500+
Asus a8v motherboard (wifi deluxe edition)
2gb pc3200 ram
6800GT AGP graphics card

Now, I could just buy another motherboard to use the above but I'd rather upgrade the lot. The problem is budget, I can't justify too much outlay and want to spend as little as possible, probably around the £150-250 range - the lower the better!!

Can a decent system be had for this price??? I don't need a super gaming system, but something that will give me fairly decent gaming performance would be handy.

I work for a memory company so I won't need any, I'll get that through work.

Thanks for any help

Best thing you could do is buy another motherboard for the current system and put a dual core AMD in there.

Otherwise as stated you'll need a bigger budget. If you can't up the budget perhaps a replacement board and CPU would be better.

Or you could do it this way... using the ASROCK board....

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) £56.99
(£66.96) £56.99

Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard £39.99

(£46.99)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £94.99
(£111.61) £94.99
(£111.61)
Sub Total : £191.97

(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £8.25
Vat : £35.04
Total : £235.26

You could keep your AGP card that way....

The memory is on special, so might not stay at that price, so you know.. ;)
I made an effort to pay attention to this part with still choosing some good parts...

Wow, fast responses :) thanks guys!

Like I said, memory won't be a problem. I think i'll go with t3los second option as I can keep the AGP card for the time being.

Good decision, that GeIL on special at the moment is an absolute bargain, I paid £164 for that in January. I'm very tempted to get another 2GB to slot into my system at such a great price.

If you wanted you could even go with t31os' suggestion and use your existing Ram to save even more cash, it wouldn't make much difference and that motherboard can cope. However it isn't a good motherboard for overclocking. :)

Yeh I noticed that my RAM would still be OK. As I work for a memory company getting my hands on RAM is no problem however :)

I won't be overclocking so thats not a problem.

Once again ta for the advice
