Need to replace my wirreless router - any suggestions?

Hi. My Belkin F5D7633 (only had it since easter from ocuk) does this wierd thing where every now and again it disconnects from the internet. (the green light for the internet goes red for a minute and the line quality one stays green so it's not a physical line problem).

I need a new wirelss adsl router and am wondering what people can recommend. Needs to have as good a range possible because it's a big house.

any help is appreciated.
 
Netgear DG834N.

Excellent range, and supports N if you have the hardware :)

I haven't had any issues with mine, although if it is that big a house you might want to consider a router+access point combination
 
Before you go splashing the cash, does it drop connection around the 24 hour mark? I used to get the same with ntl, turned out you had to open a port to allow the DNS to let you update the ip address.

Just a thought.
 
Another vote for the D834N, I've got it, and, quite frankly, even if you don't have 802.11n [draft]... You can go outside, about 40 metres away, and you will still be connected!

Just make sure you get the correct one, if you don't have a modem, get the Netgear D834N ADSL2+ Modem/Router.
If you do still have a modem, I'd still recommend getting the all-in-one bundle, as, you will get more value for your money!

any more info on this? it didn't drop at any specific time, and it wil do it more than once a day, but surely that could just meen that talktalk wants to update ip#s more often?

Not to sure on ADSL, but we have a zYxel router on talk talk here have no problems, I was just going back a year ago as in my flat I have NTL, it would cut off every 24 hours and need a reset.

It was just a thought.
 
You not want to try and fix the problem rather than throw money at it ? Check for a firmware update and see what the router logs say for starters. I'd hate to think it was line related and you just blew a wad of cash for the same thing to happen.
 
well i've just done a temporary fix and I'll see if that works. Before I bought the belking wireless router/modem i didn't have the problem (using a dlink wirleess router with a serperate dlink modem).

but i bought the belkin ebcause the dlink's wireless range was very poor and not stable.

So now I've got the dlink modem connected to the dlink wireless router (with wireless turned off and dhcp enabled). and also connected to the dlink router is the belkin router (with wireless enabeld adn dhcp disabled).

all seems to be working fine but I'll leave it a week and see if the problem is fixed. seems a waste of £55 for a modem/router which i'm only using as an access point but it's cheaper than the DG834N.

I've looked for firmware updates and it's already on the latest (and i restartted it after updating). and i can't seem to find logs anywhere on this router.
 
Maybe cheaper than the DG834N, but what about the electricity bill for those 3 items? ;)

I'm guessing you'd save more if you just bought 1 router that could handle the range.
