I have just built a computer using a second hand Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 motherboard and everytime I disconnect the power cable and plug it back in again, I need to press the CMOS button before it will boot.

Could this just be simply that the cmos battery is on its way out or could it be a more serious fault with the board?

Does this happen with every restart, or only if you unplug to power cable? If it's the former then it doesn't sound like a dead battery - you might want to try a bios flash to an updated version.

It only happens when the power cable's pulled out. In the past I've known bios clocks reset when the power was pulled, but not when the power cable's left in which is what's led me to think it could be battery. Will try and find a spare battery.

Does sound like a battery problem then. Post how it turns out.

swapped the battery from one pc to this and put the battery from this into the other pc and now neither seem to have the problem...
