Hi, I have recently taken to 3D scanning, however the software needed is beyond my current pc spec. Could anyone do me 3 builds, one for minimum required spec, a mid range one and a one for the recommended spec please? this is the software requirements,

Minimum*

  • Processor: Intel Core i7, 4 physical cores
  • Video Card: OpenGL 4.1, 2 GB Memory
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Hard Drive: 256 GB Solid State drive
  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64-bit)
  • Screen Resolution: 1366 x 768

Recommended

  • Processor: Intel Core i7/Xeon, 8 physical cores
  • Video Card: OpenGL 4.1, 4 GB Memory, Nvidia Quadro (required for stereo rendering)
  • RAM: 64 GB
  • Hard Drive: 512 GB Solid State Drive (M.2 PCIe Interface) + Regular HDD
  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64-bit)
  • Screen resolution: 1920x1080

Thanks

I don't know enough about Quadro cards to spec you one but as for the rest of the system,

level 1 would be something like an i7 6700K (4 core)with a board like an ASUS Z170-A, 16GB DDR4 3000 (2 DIMMS), a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD, a copy of Windows 10 and a cheap TN monitor

Level 2 would be an i7 6800K (6 core), a board like an ASUS X99-A, 32GB of DDR4 3000 (2 sticks or 4 sticks), a half terabyte SSD such as a Samsung 850 EVO, a copy of Win 10 and a half decent IPS monitor

Level 3 would be as above but with a 6950X (10 core), same board as above, 64GB DDR4 3000, a 1/2TB or 1TB M.2 SSD and a 2TB Western Digital Black HDD, A copy of win 10, the appropriate Quadro card, and a high end 1080P, 1440P, or 4K IPS monitor.

You're looking at ranges in price from under 1000 pounds for the least powerful to 2000/3000+++ pounds for the top.

Also consider Intel Xeon processors which, while they don't reach as high clock speeds and can't be overclocked, do support ECC memory and tend to be cheaper in terms of price-per-cpu-core.
