Well, since CPW/TalkTalk took merged with AOL I have been experiencing terrible download speeds. I have gone from around 7-8mbps to just under 1mpbs and due to me not knowing pigeon English I am unable to understand any of their support operators as they are all based abroad. Was on the phone today for just over an hour at 5p per minute and was told that I was being transferred to a 2nd level department.. after about 10 minutes they hung up on me.
I feel the need to change providers as I am utterly disappointed with AOL/TalkTalk and I have heard that they throttle their speed.

At the moment I am paying £15 per month and would be prepared to pay around £20 but I am not in a very LLU rich area so I am limited to the packages that I can have. I download quite heavily so my usage would need to be 30-40gb+ and obviously the fastest speeds that I am able to get. I am considering two packages.. one from o2 and one from virgin media. Just wondering if anyone can recommend any one of the two based on my needs and experience?

O2 Access (because Standard, Premium and Pro is not available in my area) - £17.13 (I am an O2 mobile customer)
Virgin Media Broaband L - £22 p/m

Has anyone used these packages before? Which would you recommend for me?

My postcode (if anyone needs it to check exchange info) is PE6 8DE

Hope you can help me :)

They're both pretty ropey. O2's BT Wholesale-based network is experiencing considerable overcrowding and Virgin Media's ADSL traffic shapes aggressively too.

More importantly if this is your exchange, you need to make sure TalkTalk haven't moved you to their LLU operation.

I meant what I said. According to Samknows, TalkTalk have unbundled your exchange so it's possible that they've moved your ADSL, if not your voice service, to their LLU.

If they've moved the whole lot you'd have more hassle getting moved back. If they've moved only the ADSL you'll probably have an activation fee to pay to whoever you move to (or they won't charge it but expect you to stick around to recoup the cost). If they've moved nothing, get a MAC key from them and on you go.

I left AOL a few months back when I discovered they were throttling game performance. Probably mis-diagnosed as P2P sharing traffic, but annoying nonetheless.

You're lucky to even be in an LLU enabled area.. :(

Is yours VM's cable or ADSL though - going by Samknows, it would have to be the ADSL service for the OP...
