Need TV help - 58-65 inch and budget of £600

As already mentioned would have to be the 55" Samsung TU8000 can grab this for £549 now.

Otherwise if you hate Samsung's, then you can nab a Sony Bravia KD55XH8096BU for £649 now, but means adjusting your budget a bit more.

The Hisense U7QFTUK might be worth considering, it has full array local dimming and a decent peak brightness for its price range so it performs adequately with HDR content. You usually need to spend a fair bit more to get a TV that's actually competent with HDR from what I've seen.

Thanks both for the replies, the Samsung looks pretty solid. I am in the middle of buying the house so I will likely have to wait till im in really before I can buy it. Both Samsung and Hisense look to have everything I need, not really sure if there is any difference (or anything I would notice anyway) as I said its going to be a living room workhorse really.

I think I would prefer Richersounds because of the great warranty they offer, if I stretched my budget how about the...LG 55NANO866NA
That really would be my max though. Or is there no real difference between the LG, Samsung and Hisense?

If can up the budget a bit and use a code on this model then I'd say go for this PANASONIC TX-58HX800. Very solid TV for the price and future proof with every single uhd mode available.

I'm not too sure on the nano never looked into them at all.

Up up and up haha. I can see this ending with a top of the range 1.5k LG :D

That does look again a good model, any particular reason for that over the others?

58" instead of 55". Don't think they do a 55" model though, jumps straight from 50 to 58.

Supports all the latest UHD versions - Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG

Picture quality out of the box is pretty much tuned spot on, one of the benefits of the Panasonic's. As you said you are going to use it just for movies, it will blow the others out of the water in that sense.

Only downside is I think they still don't have disney+ app, but you may have external device for that.

Sound isn't too bad on it as well for a TV internal speakers.

If it was my choice, I'd pick it over everything that has been mentioned, just take a look at some of the reviews.

Thanks for that, reviews do look for the Panasonic. I am actually considering moving round the layout I thought I was going to do in the living room so a 65" may end up being the better option.

Hisense 65AE7400FTUK - 599
Panasonic TX65HX580B - 699

These are about right in terms of price on RS. It may be best for me to hope they open up soon however and I can go in and see them in person!

Depends when you are moving I suppose.

Might get something better if you can wait.

If you can use it now then go for it.

Not sure yet hah, no completion date been pencilled in so just waiting. I 'can' use it now but would look pretty ridiculous in my current room. Ill hold on!

No he won't.

The best time to buy a TV is in January or February.

If he waits they go eol. Are sold out and then he has to pay double to get the equivalent 2021 model.

If for some reason they don't go eol then it's worth waiting but I don't see them dropping further and if they do it won't be much.

New models release around April.

If he waits prices are going to go up not down based on previous years however the pandemic may throw a spanner into that but if I was a betting man it's a big risk to take.

Also he needs to stop looking at alternative hisense models. The one linked that's FALD is a different prospect to other cheap models which are awful.

Also colour processing on hisense is iffy. They just don't have the electronics of Samsung, Sony, LG or Panasonic.

I've already stated the only 4 models I'd ever look at and I appreciate hisense do have a decent model here and there but the majority of them are crap and the best models aren't available in the UK either and USA only.

Wait another month or 2 and you will be looking at 2021 models being the only ones available and a few outliers left from 2020.

Appreciate the response. I'm likely to go with Hisense U7QFTUK or Samsung tu8000. I'll just have to see where we are with stock etc in a month or so.

The longer you leave it will be a lottery in terms of stock.

The 2020 models will all vanish. Well the majority of them will.

Then new 2021 models will appear which will be priced at the launch RRP.

The way TV's work is they launch around April and are priced at their highest. April onwards until February of the following year they slowly drop in price and then in January/February the prices dramatically drop as they try and get rid of stock and get ready for the new models.

Now this could well be different this year thanks to the pandemic.

But historically the latest you should leave it to buy is end of January and early to mid February.

We are approaching march next week. So your really pushing your luck but I think the pandemic could well of delayed things so you could push it for another few weeks but if you do miss the 2020 stock be prepared to pay substantially more for the equivalent TV.

You will be looking at absolutely bottom of the barrel models if that happens.

Yeah I appreciate that but if that happens then it happens unfortunately. I don't see retailers just clearing all 2020 models. Looking on RS and so on they are still selling old models, may even have more chance of doing a deal to take an older one off their hands. I'll just see what happens.

Yeah because the pandemic has probably delayed timelines this isn't a normal year.

The 2021 models could be delayed until June or even July we just don't know.

However if you look at richer sounds and sony 4k TV's they don't have any of or xg models only xh models.

That's because xf is 2018, xg 2019 and xh 2020. The xi if they choose to keep the same naming model they may decide to skip I because it looks like a 1 and go XJ most likely will be the 2021 model. As soon as that's ready you will see all the XH models suddenly vanish or drop in price in a fire sale before vanishing.

Any stock the retailers have will likely be the last stock they will ever have of 2020 models.

If you wanted you could maybe CA a store and ask how many of a specific TV they have in stock say your looking to buy a bunch of TV's and need them today how many of the specific TV you want do they have in stock and see if they disclose the details.

Historically by now majority of 2020 models would already be out of stock with drips and Arabs left in certain sizes.

I've picked up many bargains this way.

I bought my xf90 in Jan/Feb, my GT50 and my Samsung plasma in Jan/Feb. Right before they went eol and dropped in price a lot.

Once they do drop you literally have a few hours as it goes on HUKD and they are gone sharpish.

If your going to leave it another month or two it would genuinely be Covid that meant stock levels have remained higher of older models this late in the season.

Some manufacturers may actually say you know what we aren't going to release a 2021 model and just keep the 2020 models to save costs for this year. Again that is something that has happened once that I recall and is another possibility.

I wouldn't be banking on stock being available and if you truly want a good deal your going to need to wait until late January 2022 for them on next years models so that's another possibility you could wait for the 2022 models to go eol and get one of them

Cheers for all the info, unfortunately I really don't think I could get one now. I dont have anywhere to put it so I will have to wait and just see once I am actually in the new place. There always will be an option for my budget, may not be as good as what I could have got but im not that fussed in all honesty.

Id personally be keeping an eye out for refurbished stock from Sony or Panasonic. Some good deals often appear.
Yeah that would be ideal, will keep my eye out. Any particular retailers or anything you check for?

Yeah I got a top of the range Sony 55 inch for £450 refurbished from the Sony outlet and I sold it 2 years later for £320. It was a crazy deal at the time I can't believe it was £450 as brand new that TV was £1000+
