Need update on current PSU's

Thanks. I wouldn't have thought they'd review both versions. So that review says that v2 also has the cheaper capacitors and is group regulated.

Another question about these newer PSU's:

Years ago I used Antec TruePower 380 PSU's in most of my rigs. They have 35 amps on the 5.5v circuit.

The currently produced Antec EA-380D (quality wise in about the same range as above) has 20 amps on the 5.5v circuit.

I've noticed the same on other similar level PSU's currently available. Is this because of changed power requirements from current mobo's? Could that be a problem for a mobo from the Athlon XP/P4 days?

+3.3 V and +5 V rails
These voltage supplies are rarely a limiting factor; generally any supply with a sufficient +12 V rating will have adequate capacity at lower voltages.

It's for HDDs and such, so I imagine people rarely use the maximum.

Thanks. So since I'm using some fairly ancient HDD's on these crunching rigs (no need for huge HDD's on them), I'd better check their power requirements. But regardless, I'd only have one HDD per rig so...

So it'll be plenty. Honestly nothing to worry about. HDDs use 10Ws or so, you've got enough power for probably 10

Cool. Yeah I guess they have to go with the assumption that some might have arrays of HDD's. But makes sense that the overall on the 5.5v circuit would be less now since HDD's are becoming more efficient.

Yeah exactly, SSDs use even less too!

Low Power Consumption: 150 mW in operation, .85 mW in standby

So 20A on a 5V line = 100W. So over 600 SSDs could be run off that!

Anyway enough silly maths, you're welcome
