You are crazy if you drop from ~£50k to £17k.

Not only that but that's a very low starting wage for IT. I started on £18k fresh out of uni and my first ever full time job which was IT support, 10 years ago now.

Same with me but I skipped 1st line and went straight onto 2nd support starting at £18k 10 years ago.

Depending on area, starting salary should be at least £20k.

If you're interested in infosec then keep the job you have and use it to fund the education, training and qualifications to get you into the infosec field.

This - especially cybersecurity given the demand globally for it.

Add value on the side, then this allows you to accelerate your earnings and climb.

I jumped from development to presales/business development then to product management and now sit on the fence between disciplines. It's also harder to jump between business domains (ie mobile operators to financial services). You need to have a plan A, and a plan B... and C... etc to allow you to pivot the value you have.
