Hi guys since im new to this forum i'll just start about my problems.

I googled about my cpu and most of them says it can be o/c till around 3 ghz.
But i can only o/c until 1.89 ghz ( 236mhzx8).

So what is the probs? Settings or those 3 ghz overclocking are lies??
Any advice are appreciated.

Oh yeah here's my pc spec:

CPU - E2140 1.6 ghz
Ram - Kingston 1 Gb x 2 DDR2 667 mhz
Mobo - Asus P5KPL-AM
G/C - Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT 512 MB DDR2

They are NOT lies, though every CPU overclocks different and your motherboard needs to be up to the task as well. I had a E2160 @ 3.4 and I'm sure yours can get much higher then the current 1.89Ghz :)

I think you need to read the basic overclocking guides a bit more.
If you can't get higher than 1.89 then it can be you haven't changed your FSB:RAM ratio, so if you are upping your FSB mhz, your RAM speed will also start to go up, much over the speed of 667mhz.
Looking at your setup, having 667 ram, this is probably the case? Make sure your ratio is different so your RAM runs at a lower speed. After that up your FSB some more :)

I had one of these that did 3.6Ghz. It all depends on the motherboard, the available settings in the bios and the cpu itself. Have a read of the overclocking guide as suggested above.

Mine ran at 3.0 Ghz on stock cooler, but like it has been pointed out, it depends on your mobo too a greater extent.

With my E2160 I just set the FSB and away it went, it has never been at stock, and is running fine on stock cooling at 3.0GHz. It's only at that because I've never needed to try pushing it further.

I got a MSI Neo2-Fr by the way.

If the bios is similar to the PK5PL-VM then you are never going to get much more from it.

I have a mate that has an E1200 and I tried everything for him to get it to overclock higher than 2.0Ghz.

We even tried a Pin mod. but the board would not even boot.

Now I then tried his chip (still pin modded) in my P5K-Vm and it defaulted at the higher FSB and overclocked to 3GHz.

Pin modded my E2160 and that booted at 2.4Ghz on my board put it into the P5kPl-VM and againit refused to boot.

Yeah that can be the problem with cheap motherboards. Never again will I buy a budget motherboard, will just dissapoint you... (if you're in to overclocking and such)
