Needing new glasses

I tend to pay top dollar for my specs... it's something that I wear every day and when you break down the price of a pair to day cost, it's next to nothing.
The discount I get for a contacts lens plan, really shaves off a lot.

I did think about doing the online thing... but I heard night mare stories from a lot of my friends... but having said that, if you want to save a few bob, look for a frame in the stores that you like the look and fit off then go online to buy the frame only. Take it to any store, even boots will do this for you.. or so she tells me; and then get them to fit the lens in and custom the frame fit.

I used to do that too, I have the receipt for my glasses + sunglasses combo from Vision Express that was a few quid shy of a thousand…

Now I stopped being crazy I now go to Specsavers. I just go for black frames these days and no matter how hard I try, I have not spent more than £500 for 2 combined.

I only got a new pair back in March with sunglasses, I might get an additional spare pair online since I know all the numbers now. I got some prescription swimming googles online this month with the highest index lenses and it was £150.

I will still get my main pair on the high street, I usually go back for better fitment do the frame after a week but spare pairs I would get it online.

I got a pair of Oakleys and a pair of Raybans with Zeiss lens for £425 after all the multiple discounts from Boots. after all the discounts that they taken off it.. it was less half price.

They also do 50% of sunglasses, but I don't tend to have prescription sunglasses... I have few pairs of normal raybans, police and oakleys ones, then I have a load much cheaper throw away ones, like superdry etc, as I have a habit of sitting on them, dropping them or losing them.

You don't have to go crazy on glasses, it's the lens and fitting that matter more than the "designer".. I tend to find that cheaper lens tend to stain, AR coating flakes off and get's marked more easy.

There is a member on here that is a retired optometrist, he may pop along and tell me that I'm wrong.

But like I said, I tend to wear a pair most days... if you factor in that a pair tends to last two years, your looking at less that 25p a day.

I'm having major issues finding nice +1 reading glasses, as most stores only start from +2. I don't mind going cheap on them as I only need them when I got my contacts in and I wear them for less that 5-10 mins a week.

Like an office good chairs and mattresses, some people don't believe in them, but I'm happy to pay top dollar for a better chair that I'm in 9-5 for 5 days a week than a sofa that I rarely sit in.. I think my office chair cost more than my sofa set put together.
